Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - Episode 6

Yūko! \(^o^)/

Finally an episode with a mystery, and a decent one at that. On top of being entertaining, I believe this episode was a good indicator that there are cases where honorifics in subtitles are crucial in keeping the original Japanese meaning, despite the fact that they're generally used as insignificant titles (to the English speaker, that is). In this particular case, differentiating between Kanoe Yūko and Kirishima Yūko was done with the use of the "-san" honorific when addressing the former. Near the end, when the students started becoming mentally unstable, they begin to address Kirishima Yūko by her first name along with the previously unused "-san" honorific, indicating that they had mistaken her for the "Yūko-san" (i.e. Kanoe Yūko) who was supposed to be the sacrifice. Without the use of honorifics in the subs, it'd have been harder to realize this change in way of addressing unless one also paid attention to the Japanese audio.

Regarding the story, I was glad that this episode didn't jump to another point in time as it picked up straight from where the last one left off—during the school cultural festival. The introduction of a new and mysterious character also added to story and I'm hoping she'll be integrated into future arcs. From what I could tell, Kirishima Yūko has the potential to become a very interesting and significant character. How she is related to Kanoe Yūko is a subject of interest, especially since it looks like she can see her (refer to the "Sorry" that was said as the two crossed paths).

From the last scene before the preview narration, the next episode seems like it'll be epic. I emphasize "seems" here since the last time the shadow made its appearance in a similar cliffhanger scene, the episode afterwards just jumped to another random arc (this one, to be exact) suddenly and without explanation. Hopefully, this isn't the case this time around and that the mystery behind the shadow actually gets expanded on.

Reading this, I'm glad I avoided the anime.

Deen's not the studio behind this, is it? They have a knack for destroying perfectly good mysteries and taking huge dumps down the viewers' throats.
