Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai - Episode 12
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (4/5)
Right from the start, Yozora knew that Kodaka was Taka; his hair and eyes gave it all away. The whole talk with "Tomo-chan" was indeed about Kodaka, though he didn't know it at the time, and the creation of the Rinjinbu was influenced by Yozora's desire to spend time and reconnect with her long-lost friend. But when members started joining, her plan looked to have backfired as Kodaka started to make new friends. It must have been hard for Yozora stand there watching her only true friend being taken away by others. Her cold personality may have been a result of this frustration and/or sadness.
At one point in the episode, Kodaka asks Yozora what he should call her now since they had nicknames for each other in the past. I felt the nicknames themselves were symbolic of their friendship and it was understandable why Yozora didn't want to go back to being called "Sora." Even Kodaka realized that, after 10 years of not seeing each other, it'd be difficult for things to go back to the way they were before. And to further suppress the past, the two even decide to keep this to themselves during club activities and act like nothing happened. Seeing this slightly disappointed me as I had hoped for some romantic development between the two of them now that they knew about their friendship in the past.
From Yozora's point of view, the fact that Kodaka had seemingly forgotten about her undoubtedly hurt. However, I don't blame the guy since Yozora looked like a boy back then and now looks like a girl. Despite this, I think Yozora still liked Kodaka even after these 10 years. It was most likely because she wasn't able to gather up the courage to tell him that she was a girl (and maybe confess) on his last day before moving that the situation turned out that way. Her "conversation" with Tomo-chan slightly implied that she was the typical "girl in love who is too shy to speak to her love interest", while the Rinjinbu was seemingly an attempt to recreate the times of the past where the two would hang out together.
My favorite part of the episode was definitely the insert song and all the flashbacks. This last episode wrapped up the series with a nice open ending. The possibility of a second season is definitely out there and I, for one, hope that it becomes a reality. I am hoping for some development regarding the Kodaka x Yozora relationship if it does happen as I now fully support the pairing thanks to the last two episodes. For now, I'm going to miss my weekly dose of Yozora bullying Sena, Sena fawning over Kobato and Kobato being moe.
