Shinryaku!? Ika Musume - Episode 11
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (5/5)
This was arguably the best episode of the series. All three stories were for the most part interesting and entertaining. The variety of the stories made it easier to retain the attention of the audience as the episode wouldn't seem boring or repetitive halfway through. It's sad that the next episode will be the last. I, for one, won't mind a season three at around the same time next year. Ika Musume is just one of those shows that can go on forever as long as there is enough manga material left to animate.
催眠術じゃなイカ!? (Isn't That Hypnosis!?)
I'm a big skeptic of hypnotism, even though I've been to several hypnotism shows that made everything look real. But since this is the world of anime, anything is believable. When I first saw Sanae trying to hypnotize Alex, it was obvious what was on her mind. Hilarity ensues when she fails to hypnotize the others but they make it seem like it worked. As always, Ika Musume is (or makes it look like she's) one step above the other humans by doing something they can't do - this time, it's hypnotism. But the poor squid girl always forgets that Chizuru is somewhat of an "enhanced" human being and ends up suffering her wrath in the end. This type of story is typical for this show and is what I expect every week.
組まなイカ!? (Isn't That an Organization!?)
Interesting, a shounen-type fight scene in Ika Musume. Complete with semi-intense music and a full battle sequence, half of which was dialogue exchange, it's like I was watching some comedic shounen anime. Anyhow, I enjoyed the amusing fight and but found the ending a bit weak. Seriously, the reason why the mechanical Ika Musume lost was because its cord wasn't long enough? That's really lame. Not to mention having the head explode for absolutely no reason, guaranteeing the win for the real Ika Musume in the process. But when I think about it, the stupidity of it all does make sense considering the machine was made by the Three Idiots. Oh well, Ika Musume winning and keeping her title of "Ika Musume" was is all that matters.
ふたりきりじゃなイカ!? (Isn't It Just Us Two!?)
All throughout this part, I had the same thoughts as Ika Musume: What is Chizuru scheming now? Why is she acting so friendly? It is when she admits that she wants to get to know Ika Musume more that I finally realized Chizuru isn't as emotionless as she makes it seem. And when she opened her eyes for the first time, it took me by surprise. The scene of the two supposed "enemies" talking with each other over lunch at a family restaurant was really nice. It's too bad Ika Musume ruined their newly created bond right when they got home by explicitly stating that she thinks Chizuru isn't a human. But I guess Chizuru scaring Ika Musume is what makes their relationship amusing so I'm somewhat glad that it ended this way.
