Kami-sama no Memo-chou - Episode 4

Rage
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★  ☆ (3/5)

Oh, great... A filler episode. This show is already short enough at 12 episodes but to add a filler episode really is discouraging to viewers who want to see more of the better mysteries. On the other hand, I assume this episode is used to bring in those who are looking for fanservice. Ever since the double-length first episode, Kami-sama no Memo-chou has been slowly going downhill for me. Hopefully, the future episodes will change that.

Today's mystery begins with a suspicious, sunglasses-wearing man who, after ordering a bowl of ramen at Hanamaru, takes a sip of the soup and leaves, after placing some tips on the table. This behavior confuses Narumi, and, not to mention, is a waste. Because this is not the first time this has happened, a Min-san is enraged and forces Narumi to help her rework the entire food recipe, requiring him to pull, not one, but three straight all-nighters. These long nights have taken its toll on this young boy's body as he is obviously unable to concentrate at school. On the fourth night of endurance, the fatigue he is feeling causes him to be unable to stop a mysterious thief who broke into Hanamaru and stole something. His screams of panic only causes Min-san, who is in nothing but a bath towel after coming out of the shower, to ask about the current situation, fully aware of her physical appearance. It takes a while for Narumi to regain concentration after seeing the nice body of an older woman. At first, after she learns about the thief, Min-san isn't shaken by the development. However, she then realizes that there is, in fact, something valuable of hers that is in Hanamaru: her sarashi. When she finds out that it's gone, viewers are shown, for the first time, the face of a worried/shocked Min.

The next day, after the news is delivered to the Tetsu and Hitoshi, the two burst out in anger with violent threats, not knowing anything about the perpetrator. Despite offering Min-san their help, she firmly refuses, not wanting them to get in the way of herself and her business. But when Hiro, the self-proclaimed master of stalkers, enters the shop, he asks Min-san a few questions before concluding that she is, in fact, being stalked. Narumi can't believe that he is the only one who thinks everything is absurd. After knowing this, Min-san heads up to Alice's room to ask for help. However, Alice's stuck-up attitude, due to this being the first time that Min-san has ever asked her for help, causes the ramen store owner to tease the NEET detective. Aside from that, through brief analysis by the NEETs, they conclude that the sunglasses-wearing man and the sarashi thief are connected since the two come by the shop on the same day. With this in mind the NEETs start talking about preparations, clearly way in over their heads. Their ignorance causes Min-san to storm out of the room after reminding them that she does not want them to ruin the business that she's running. Fortunately, Narumi manages to get Min-san to put down her own pride and ask Alice for help after telling her about the possibility of the thief pleasuring himself with the sarashi. And when Min-san finally asks for help, Alice, full of self-satisfaction, gives her NEET subordinates their tasks, with Narumi being given the task of "doing what you always do; being useless". But after coming up empty-handed in their research, they are back at square one, obviously frustrated. While thinking of what to do next, the sunglasses man quietly and swiftly enters Hanamaru and orders some sesame ramen. Unfortunately, the result is the same as he leaves after taking a sip of the soup and placing some tips on the table. Though this time, Hiro decides to follow the man in an attempt to find out more about him. But when night fell, Hiro informs Narumi that he was unable to follow the man and lost him. Upon returning to the kitchen, Narumi is subject to a taste test involving Min-san's soup. After telling the truth about its mediocre quality, Min-san dumps it all down the drain while talking about the possibility of the sunglasses man coming to the ramen shop specifically for her father's soup, something which she doesn't have the recipe to. Later that evening, Narumi reports back to Alice about every lock in Hanamaru being replaced, except the one on the front door since Min-san was adamant about not touching it. Instead of it being a disadvantage, Alice decides to use it to lure the intruder inside, making him think the shop's security is low. Before returning to their positions, Hitoshi provides Narumi with a weird-looking golden ball, telling him to use it on the thief, if necessary.

When everyone is in position, the thief, as expected, makes his move. But this time, Narumi is able to be of use as he throws the golden ball, which turns out to be a flash bomb, at the thief, momentarily blinding the both of them. This allowed the others to apprehend the intruder. Luckily for the man, he is saved from a severe beating at the hands of Min-san since it is Alice's job to finish the rest of the investigation. From his ID, the perpetrator turns out to be Kimura Tomio, Director of Development at a company named His Angelica, which specializes in manufacturing famous women's lingerie. At the mention of this, Tomio goes from silent to berserk, madly trying to explain that the reason why he stole Min-san's sarashi was because he couldn't stand seeing her not wear proper lingerie. In addition to his crazy rant, he reveals that he has the ability to know a woman's bust size just by looking, something that many men out there obviously want. But aside from the current issue, the problem of how he got in is still at hand. And who else is able to solve this but Alice. After explaining her reasoning, the pieces of the puzzle fell together, revealing the truth: the sunglasses man, Hanada Masaru (a.k.a. Min-san's father), first opens the door to enter the store, enabling Tomio to easily enter through the unlocked door. With this mystery solved, Min enters the kitchen and sees a canteen of soup, some ingredients, a recipe and a note, all of which were left by her father. After tasting the soup and looking at the ingredients and recipe, she looks at the note which reads "Next time, let me try some of your ice cream." It was obviously impossible for Min-san to describe her feelings that time with words so tears were the only things that could come close to her emotions.

Now, here he have the all-important comic relief scene of the episode. Firstly, the three NEETs receive the bra that they had specially made by Tomio after requesting for him to determine Alice's size. With the product now in hand, the only thing left is for someone to deliver it to her (and face her wrath as well). Like always, the unlucky one is Narumi who gets the bra, along with other things, thrown at his face as he stumbles out of the room. Next episode preview doesn't really show anything except the introduction of, yet, another new character. Looking forward to it.
