Hyouka - Episode 14

Cooking: 'Tis a form of art.

Cooking competitions have always intrigued me. I believe a true chef is not just defined by how well they can cook, but also by how creative they are given certain ingredients. Those who are able to make a delicious dish out of the most absurd of items can truly be called a great chef. The members of Team Classics Club graced the audience of Wildfire with three different types of cooks. First you have Satoshi, a regular cook like the ones you see on cooking shows who can make a good dish in a decent amount of time. Then you have Eru, whose cooking level is at that of a head chef at a restaurant, as shown by her expertise in food preparation and fast-paced cooking style. Finally, there's Mayaka—arguably the star of the show—who was able to whip up some karaage with little to no ingredients. That said, Hōtarō deserves some credit for providing her with the inspiration. Although this episode was mostly a filler, I was thoroughly entertained by it so I won't count it against the series.

As the Kanya Festival draws to an end, it seems like mysteries will take over as the series' main focus once again. With "Jūmonji" (literally "cross") still on the loose, there's no doubt Hōtarō and co. will be called upon to solve this mystery. Judging by the preview, Tōgaito (a.k.a. the rich kid who didn't want anyone to know that he smokes) may be the culprit. And seeing as how he has motive to get back at the Classics Club, he's probably the prime suspect as of now. With that being said, there's usually an unexpected twist in these types of mysteries so I won't rule out other possibilities. The mystery aside, I'm still curious as to what Hōtarō will do with the backstage pass he got from the Fashion Club member. Maybe he'll get Eru to dress up and go be part of the show? Maybe he'll be the one participating? Regardless of what he does with it, I'm pretty sure it will cause hilarity to ensue.
