Accel World - Episode 9

Double the tsundere moe!

As much as this episode was serious in general, the added bits of comedy spread across the 24 minutes really had me entertained. From the start, I knew the rivalry between Kuroyukihime and Scarlet Rain was going to be amusing to watch, especially when their arguments concerned or involved Haruyuki. This episode also showed that Scarlet Rain is not only a creepy loli, but a sadistic one as well, deriving pleasure from putting Haruyuki and Kuroyukihime in unconfortable situations. Furthermore, I feel she has a tsundere side to her as well, seeing as how she's disrespectful to the Black Lotus at times, while also being willing to bathe and sleep with her. All in all, I find Kōzuki Yuniko, or simply "Niko", to be quite interesting as a character and look forward to seeing how she will interact with Haruyuki and co. in the near future—particularly regarding their search for Chrome Disaster.

While her "revealed" motives don't seem all that bad (she just wants to find and defeat one of her Legion members who got possessed by the fifth Chrome Disaster), one has also got to wonder if this is truly all she wants. The story about Chrome Disaster's existence has been validated by Kuroyukihime, although only up to the fourth generation, so that lessens the probability that Niko's trying to deceive the other three. Assuming that she's telling the truth, it looks like the road ahead is going to be rough one since Chrome Disaster seems stronger than any of the four's past opponents; it's possibly even stronger than all of those opponents combined. While I don't expect Haruyuki and co. to defeat it on their first try, I do believe they will put up a good fight. However, seeing as how the OP shows Silver Crow landing an aerial kick on what looks to be Chrome Disaster, all hope might not be lost for a first-encounter victory. With Taku being the "data analyzer" of the group, I presume he'll be in charge of the pre-battle preparations in the next episode.

Looking a bit further into the future, I think Taku's reminder that they'll all have to fight the Kings in the future in order to reach Level 10 really implanted itself in Haruyuki's head. As he watched both the Black and Red King peacefully sleeping, I'm sure he must've thought "I'm going to have to fight them someday..." Although depressing, this is indeed a true fact. And when that time comes, I wonder if he'll be able to handle cutting off all his emotions in order to try and obtain what's best for him.
