Ano Natsu de Matteru - Episode 11

Well played, Lemon.

Well, it's not like Ichika's sister came to Earth for any other reason other than to bring her imōto back to their planet. Despite the fact that this was a totally different episode, it was too similar to Episode 9 for my liking. Kanna getting emotional once again when it came to Ichika's insecure and weak feelings towards Kaito didn't have as much impact as it did the first time. On Ichika's side, one would think she'd put up more of a fight when it came to the prospect of going back, so I do think she deserved to be yelled at by Kanna again. Maybe now she'll think more about her relationship with her boyfriend.

The star of this episode was none other than Lemon. Having been working backstage in support of the others for the majority of the series, she ended up taking the spotlight this time around. Not only is she an amusing character, but her driving skills are insanely advanced for a high school student (assuming that she is one). I wouldn't be surprised if everything that has happened thus far is all part of her plan. Who knows, maybe she's part of the group trying to catch Ichika and is just isolating the target so that the capture will run more smoothly? Knowing Lemon, this speculation is definitely not out of the question. What would be shocking is if she's actually a human being. Without anything to explain her abilities, all one would be able to do is stare in awe.

In particular, the chase scene seemed very significant to me. As Tetsurō, Mio and Kana all left to draw the rescue pods away, one thing it implied was that the pairings were more or less final. With Kaito x Ichika already explicitly confirmed, Tetsurō x Mio seemed to follow suit as Tetsurō asked Mio to go to the movies with him, and him only (a date?). Secondly, it showed how real friends would be willing to do anything, even at the risk of their lives, to help you. The heartfelt exchange of dialogue prior to each decoy's departure was a testament to the strength of the group's bond.

And now that the truck has crashed and it's only Lemon, Kaito and Ichika left in the area, the next episode will most likely reveal the truth behind Lemon. More specifically, whose side is she actually on? Personally, I hope that she turns out to be a normal high school student who's just slightly smarter and more resourceful than others her age. At this point, it's still hard to predict whether the ending will be a tear-jerker or a "happily ever after". Whatever it may be, I'm going to miss Ano Natsu when it ends.
