Ano Natsu de Matteru - Episode 2

Lemon is such a troll!

Not much happened in this episode in terms of plot development, but potential love triangles have revealed themselves. The sci-fi isn't a prominent aspect once again, with only a bit of it showing up at the beginning and the end. I felt a much stronger Ano Hana vibe as I watched the group hanging out together as the lovely summer sun shines through the windows of Kaito's house. This kind of slice-of-life aura is what I was expecting out of this series. Although the little bit of sci-fi took me by surprise (and slightly disappointed me), episodes like this definitely make up for it.

The most obvious pairing is none other than Kaito x Ichika. Not only does their love seem mutual, but they also look like a good couple. But Kanna, the girl who's tsundere/yandere towards Kaito, complicates things by forming the love triangle. Things get even messier when it's implied that Tetsurō has feelings for Kanna and that Mio has feelings for Tetsurō. Essentially, the only ones who are not part of a one-sided relationship are Kaito and Ichika, making them the perfect pairing (and the one with the highest chance of actually happening) of the series. As for Lemon, she's too awesome for both Kaito and Tetsurō so I'm glad she's not part of any potential pairing (at least for now).

Now onto the actual "story." From the flashback at the beginning of the episode, it's quite clear that Ichika had not intended to land on Earth, with Kaito's death being an unfortunate coincidence. It seems like the only reason why he's here today is because Ichika did something to revive him. However, like all good, health-improving methods, there were some side effects. Instead of there only being one mark on his neck, Kaito now has another one on his forehead. My guess is that each time he's saved from the excruciating pain resulting from the activity of the marks, another one appears on his body. If this is the case, it'll soon be a case of "too little, too late" as Ichika will probably be unable to heal him fast enough.

Even though the story is just starting out, I honestly still have no idea which direction the whole thing is headed in. Is the focus going to be on filmmaking (i.e. the slice-of-life path), or is it going to be about Ichika's life on Earth (i.e. the sci-fi path)? I personally prefer the former as it was what I expected out of the show in the first place. Hopefully, the later episodes will be similar to this one.

Random Note: I'm starting to really like the OP~
