Ikoku Meiro no Croisée - Episode 7
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (5/5)
Best episode of the series thus far. There was a great variety in scenes that evoked some mixed emotions. From rage to sadness to joy; this episode had it all. The added comedy to a mostly drama-filled episode kept things interesting. Overall, I felt that it was masterfully put together. And to top it all off, the preview gives me some hope that there's going to be some Claude x Camille action, along with their backstory. As of now, I support Claude x Camille but we'll see how I feel after watching the next episode.
Remembering that Claude had said that he wanted to try more Japanese food, Yune decides to make him some early one morning. However, when Claude sees that she is about to use umeboshi as one of the ingredients, he quickly changes his mind and informs Yune that he is deciding to take the change more slowly. During breakfast, the signs of Yune's sickness starts to appear as she appears to have no appetite. Later in the day, the little boy, whose also the thief from last time, has the audacity to come back to the Enseignes du Roy. Luckily for him, Yune, being the kindhearted girl that she is, doesn't yell at him or anything. Instead, she gives him her loaf of bread from breakfast telling him to not steal again. I find her actions nice and, yet, naive at the same time since it's obvious that the boy will try to steal again since it's the only way he can live. But when Claude sees this, he is furious and tells Yune never to do that again, adding on that kids are just animals. As for Yune, she has different views but, due to the fact she is serving under Claude, she is powerless. Just then, Alice comes into the store and provides some great comic relief by showing Yune her incorrect usage of three different Japanese items. When the ojou-sama realizes her failures, she is left speechless, prompting Claude to start pushing her out of the store. Oscar then gives her more reason to leave as he notes that Yune seems a bit sick. Before leaving, Alice gives Yune a bise, which shocks Yune due it being non-existant in Japan. After seeing this, Alice leaves with her head held high, knowing that since she is the first person to give Yune a bise, she must be the closest to her in terms of friendship.
Later in the day, the thief boy returns. Unfortunately, Yune ignores what Claude told her before and goes out to talk to the boy. She then tells them that they can't meet again and gives him a bise before an angry Claude breaks up the talk. But this time, instead of listening to Claude's lecture, Yune voices her concern for the boy's life since he is barely able to get by in life without money. In the end, Yune is reduced to tears and begins to walk back to her room. However, while ascending the staircase, her cold started to get worse, causing her to collapse. Oscar, who is in another room, hears the noise of her body meeting the floor and goes to out to check it out. Despite being sick, Yune still holds onto her selfless personality and apologizes to Claude and Oscar for causing them trouble. The two men then decide that the best thing to do for now is let her rest. With some free time on his hands, Claude begins to sort his thoughts. However, when he sees the thief boy outside the store again, anger starts creeping up on him again. Because of this, he confronts the boy and blames him for Yune's sickness. Meanwhile, Yune starts dreaming about another the time where she was sick and her sister took care of her. Upon waking up, the first thing that Yune looks to is the book that Claude bought for her. She then tries to get it but, due to how weak her body is, she collapses again, pulling the tablecloth and everything on the table down with her, resulting in a mess on the floor. On the floor below, what Yune had said about the thief boy earlier seemed to really affect Claude as that is all he can think of. This causes him to conclude that it would be best for Yune is she went back to Japan, an idea that Oscar, who had just walked into the store, found selfish. But Claude ignores his grandfather's opinion and continues on to Yune's room. Unfortunately, the scene he saw once the opened the door definitely made him change his mind. After helping Yune, who was holding onto the book for dear life, back to her bed, Claude realizes that he must do something about this. Putting his rivalry with Alice aside, he goes to the Blanche mansion and informs her of the situation. He then pleads her to call a doctor to see Yune, even offering to pay the fees. Meanwhile, the thief boy seems to have had a change of heart as he stops midway in an attempt to steal some flowers, most likely remembering Yune's words. Instead, he went off to pick some flowers and left them for Yune in front of the Enseignes du Roy. When Claude returns from the Blanche mansion, he finds the boy's gift to Yune, which surprises him. After going inside the store, he updates his grandfather on the situation with the doctor and begins to cook some Japanese rice porridge using the recipe that he begged Alice to give him. When the sun began to set, Claude finishes his creation and brings it up to Yune's room for her to try. After she realizes that she received so many gifts from people that care, tears of joy begin to flow from her eyes. A treat for Claude x Yune supporters ends off episode as Claude feeds Yune the rice porridge before giving her a goodnight kiss. And the thief boy is seen smiling and touching the spot where Yune kissed him while looking at the sunset.
Post-ED scene wraps up the episode with some comedy and Alice barges into Yune's room, claiming that ice works best for a cold, before rubbing a bottle of ice all over Yune's body. To top things off, her maids and butler were already outside the door with a tub or ice water waiting. Poor Yune... As for the next episode preview, the prospect of the story of Claude and Camille's relationship being revealed is very exciting for me. Like I said before, I'm really hoping for a Claude x Camille ending since the two seem perfect for each other with their contrasting personalities. Looking forward to the next episode.
