Usagi Drop - Episode 2

Feeling down? Then let Rin's smile cheer you up ^_^
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (4/5)

Once again, Rin is extremely moe throughout the episode - from buying clothes to the trips back home with Daikichi. Such a heartwarming episode but I have a feeling things are going to start getting rough for the two as Daikichi will need to figure out a way to balance both a job and the task of raising a child. If Rin's mother shows up midway through the show, some interesting drama may follow. Hopefully, everything will end up fine and a happy ending is used.

Well, I guess the crappy art is going to be used for the intro to each episode so I guess I'll have to get used to it. This episode starts off with Rin and Daikichi heading out to buy the necessary supplies required since she is now staying at his house. Along the way, Daikichi helps Rin get a green leaf from a tree that she can't reach. With that, she now has both a green and yellow leaf, which she picked up from the ground. I, for one, haven't seen a green and yellow leaf at the same time. Maybe it's just that I don't care enough about trees to notice. Anyways, when the two reach a clothing store, Daikichi is shocked at the number of parents and children there are. However, he has no time to think about that as Rin starts telling him what she wants. At the end of the day, the two head back home, obviously fatigued. Once at home, Daikichi gives his sister,  Haruko, the mother of Annoying Reina, a call asking her about how to help Rin enroll at a nursery since the fact that tomorrow is Monday completely slipped his mind. Unfortunately, during their conversation, Reina starts being annoying, making the conversation impossible. In the end, Haruko tells Daikichi to search for an temporary nursery that accepts children in cases of emergency. After finally finding one after a while of searching, Rin demands for a bath.

The next day, at 5:45 in the morning, Rin wakes up first and proceeds to wake an extremely sleepy Daikichi. During breakfast, Rin lectures him about his table manners. I find it fitting how the aunt is teaching and taking care of her nephew. After riding on a crowded subway train and walking a long distance, the two finally reach the temporary nursery. Once Daikichi leaves Rin in the care of the nursery staff, he begins to leave. However, upon looking back and seeing the sad look in Rin's eyes, he promises her that he will pick her up as soon as he finishes work. While on his way to work, Daikichi realizes that he didn't think about Rin's feelings when leaving her at the nursery. The fact that she was abandoned by both her mother and father adds to the pain of being alone. Because of this, Daikichi understands the pain that Rin must have felt. While on the subway to work, his heavy breathing due to running a lot causes a young woman who looked to be in her early twenties to mistake him for a pervert. Her look of disgust was extremely funny. The day continues for both Daikichi and Rin, with both of them ending up being the last ones to head back home. When Daikichi finally returns to the nursery to pick up an not-so-happy Rin, she gives him a small box of what looked to be something edible (though I'm not really sure). Because he broke his promise with her, he takes a handful of those "things" and stuffs them in his mouse, placing a smile on her face. The days continue to go by like this, with Daikichi dropping her off at the nursery before going to work and then picking her up after work. However, one day, Daikichi's manager (I think), is surprised when he finds out Daikichi had forgotten to do a task while his co-worker thinks that Daikichi landed himself a girlfriend since he now has no time to go outside for drinks at night. Even as things are going downhill, Daikichi still  tries to keep Rin happy, giving her a ride on his shoulders back home that day. The smile on her face alone must have been enough to keep him going. That night, he takes out the mother and child health record booklet that his mother had given him on the day that he took Rin home with him. While flipping through the pages, he concludes that although Rin seen as a villain by all his relatives, the real villain, in his mind, is someone by the name of Masako-san (Rin's mother maybe?). After the ED, a short scene shows that Rin had an accident while sleeping in Daikichi's futon. Upon waking up, Daikichi can't believe what he sees, not wanting to believe that he is responsible for the stain. However, when Rin wakes up, she, with an embarrassed and angry face, claims that it's sweat. Even after he agrees with her so she won't feel as bad about it, Rin continues to insist that it's sweat. And that is the end of the second episode. I like how the ending scenes always have a comedic element to them. So far, Usagi Drop really meeting my expectations and I hope it will continue this way. Looking forward to the next episode.
