Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - Episode 10

So sad...

In what was arguably the best and most anticipated episode of this series, I found it to be truly saddening and painful to watch (Note: Not a bad thing). It's easy to see Yūko had always been a kind-hearted person, even before she died and started to push her negative emotions onto her shadow. She was someone who put others above herself, despite the risks and dangers that she might have been exposed to. But in the end, she was rewarded with a broken leg after being hurled down the stairs and was left there to die. The final moments of her life in which she struggled to maintain her sanity were especially difficult to sit through given how her behaviour then was a far cry from current/ghost Yūko's.

While the first person view was disorienting at times, I thought it was a unique way to show a flashback of Yūko's life when she was alive. Seeing Teiichi imitating her actions was strange, however. Also, was there actually a reason why he was depicted as his younger self? Aside from those seemingly unexplained points, I really liked how Teiichi was shown reacting to Yūko's actions. It added an extra dimension to the flashback in the sense that the audience is now watching someone who could also be classified as an audience member (of a different event, that is). At many times, Teiichi's responses to Yūko's decisions coincided with mine and, similarly, he also found it frustrating when his screams and shouts could not be heard. Moreover, because he could also feel her pain, I believe that Teiichi was finally able to fully understand everything that Yūko went through after all was said and done. I'm not sure if I interpreted it correctly or not, but from the last line of the episode, I think that Yūko actually hates herself.

With everything fully explained, it's now up to Teiichi to come up with a solution for the current situation—the animosity between the shadow and ghost. I trust that he'll be able to come up with something fair that will be accepted by both sides as he is familiar with their thoughts and feelings now. It may prove to be difficult, but with the power of "the protagonist always finds a way to prevail", anything is possible.
