Jormungand - Episode 7

Mmm... Chinese food

Well, that was underwhelming. After all that tension created at the end of the last episode with Valmet's insane face, you'd think the fight between her and Karen would be one of epic proportions. That didn't turn out to be the case, unfortunately. In fact, it was way too one-sided for my liking, considering how skilled of a fighter Karen is, as shown during her utter annihilation of one of Scarecrow's men. What's worse is that Mr. Chen got utterly humiliated by Koko (although I didn't really understand why beyond having his proposal to work together rejected and finding out that Karen got owned by HCLI's troops). On the bright side, the new character, Schokolade, has an interesting personality, similar to that of Koko when she's not serious, so I'm hoping she shows up again soon.

While the last episode had a more "serious" vibe to it, this one contained, for the most part, comedy and interesting conversations, particularly the one between Koko and Mr. Chen. It was amusing since even though they both know they're enemies, they still conversed as though they were good acquaintances. I think it was more of an indirect battle, with the first person who slips up or loses their composure becoming the defeated one. In this case, it was Mr. Chen who lost the battle after realizing that Karen had been on the losing end of the more explicit "battle" of the two, ruining his plans.

Overall, it was a fun episode and arc. Nothing particularly memorable, but there are two points of note which may be important for future reference. Firstly, I think this is far from being Schokolade's last appearance. With Scarecrow already having appeared multiple times, I'm sure she'll come back, too. Secondly, a Valmet vs. Karen rematch also seems to be inevitable given Karen's strong last words towards Valmet. And maybe Valmet will one day come face to face with the one who's responsible for her injured eye. But for now, I'll be looking forward to the next arc, which seems to take place in England.
