ZETMAN - Episode 3
Blogger's Note: So apparently SFW dropped all shows due to one of their staff members getting a full-time job. Thus, the switch to WhyNot? has been made.
The episode itself felt a bit fast-paced to me. A lot of things seemed rushed, especially the explanation about the Amagi Corporation's involvement in the matter involving the "Players" and Jin's past. Despite this, the struggles that Jin and Kōga were shown to be dealing with were portrayed well enough to the point where the audience's emotions could've been stirred. With the amount of manga material there is left to animate, I'm starting to worry that the producers might be trying to fit everything into 13 episodes, which I believe would be a very, very bad choice.
For Kōga, he plays the part of the ethical rich boy who, unlike his father, doesn't believe in taking advantage of others in order to get to the top. But because he doesn't want to oppose his father nor take credit for Jin's hard work (referring to when Jin saved the family in the burning building in the last episode), the mental conflict he faces is undoubtedly frustrating. Luckily though, he has an honest sister like Konoha to support and criticize him. Seeing as how Kōga is leaning more towards the "protagonist" side rather than the "antagonist" side, I think it's safe to say that he and Jin won't be fighting against each other any time soon, contrary to the synopsis.
As for Jin, the ultimate decision he needed to make was whether to live as a human or fight as a ZET. Seeing as how the Amagi Corporation had been planning to use him ever since he was "created", I was quite sure that he would've made the decision to get away from it all and live as a human with Akemi. However, if that were the case, there wouldn't be any story, now would there? Despite those conditions upon which Kōga's grandfather agreed on, I doubt they will be fulfilled given that the old man doesn't seem the least bit trustworthy. Sooner or later, it'll probably end up being ZET vs. ALPHAS, Jin vs. Kōga, to see who will be the one to truly bring justice to the city.
The new character, who seems like a tomboy/genki-girl, that will be introduced in the next episode gives me the feeling that she'll be used for comic relief. Also, similar how Kōga has Konoha, this girl might be given the role of "Jin's supporter". In that case, it'll mean Konoha will have a rival in her quest for Jin, ultimately resulting in two one-on-one battles involving the two sides. However, this is all speculation; although I think it'd be interesting if this were to happen. Next episode should be released in a day or two.
