Sankarea - Episode 2
From the last episode, it wasn't too hard to tell that Rea's father was a bit messed up in the head. Seeing his rationalization for his actions towards her in this episode me think, "Wow... this guy really is insane!" No matter how one justifies it, forcing your own daughter to pose nude for you every year on her birthday is just sickening, especially when she's in her teenage years. And because of his wealth and power, poor Rea can't confide in anyone or she risks her father making a move and causing others to suffer. It's not surprising that she thinks she's better off dead; the helplessness she feels must have taken its toll.
As for the elixir, one of the ingredients was apparently hydrangea. I found it interesting how, despite the fact that it contains cyanide, hydrangea is still used to make tea in Japan. But because of this, there may be a possibility that Rea, who drank a small shot of the elixir which she secretly took, will not die of the poison. Additionally, she assumed that the resurrection failed, meaning that the elixir should kill instead of revive, when in fact Babu did indeed come back to life. Thus, I'm willing to bet that Rea is not dead and (from an optimist's point of view) just passed out due to the small amount of poison she ingested. Whether my guess is correct will have to wait until the next episode but no matter what the answer is, she'll most likely be alive - either as a human or a zombie.
And since Babu had escaped from the blue cooler that he was in for the past five days, the next episode will probably consist of Chihiro attempting to search for him. I'm almost certain that the initial search for the cat will end up turning into a search for Rea since she won't show up at the "meeting place" due to her father's restrictions. Going further, I'm assuming that this will lead to drama between Chihiro and Rea's father; Mr. Sanka seemed quite displeased when he saw Chihiro talking to his daughter right before she tried to slip back into the house, unnoticed. Despite all this, I'm still confident that a Chihiro x Rea ending will occur. With two episodes now complete, I think it's safe to say that I'll be continuing with Sankarea for the rest of the season.
