Jormungand - Episode 3

The eyes of a sadistic killer

This episode was the first of (probably) two parts in the arc. The introduction of the Orchestra as the antagonists was done well in the pre-OP scene. Both members of the group are depicted as merciless assassins with an interesting reason for using guns to fight - and that is to make music. For me, the sadistic Chinatsu was a surprise since, despite her potential of her having an insane side, I still like her character. Generally, characters that get pleasure from killing creep me out (e.g. Yuno from Mirai Nikki) but Chinatsu has yet to do that.

During the gunfight, I'm guessing hundreds of bullets must have been fired between the two sides. Yet, only two were actually on target. Given Jonah and the Orchestra leader's skills with firearms, this is slightly unbelievable. Furthermore, being able to eliminate two snipers from a distance with great accuracy but not being able to hit a kid that's standing no more than 50 metres away is beyond belief. There were many other opportunities for both sides to sustain casualties but, in the end, the only victims were some members of the city's police force. Being even more critical of the scene, the lack of authorities (aside from the few that showed up and got killed) makes me laugh at Koko's statement in the beginning about how the city has "great law enforcement". Yeah, it sure is great, alright. Because of this, I won't be surprised if there ends up being no law enforcement officers in the next episode.

Continuing my rant about the inconsistencies of the gunfight, for someone to be able to operate an AK-47, a rifle which has extremely high recoil, with one hand is just outrageous. Also, maybe it's because I haven't seen one before, but a grenade launcher the size of the handgun/small shotgun doesn't seem realistic, either. Lastly, when the AK and launcher ran out of ammo, Lehm, who still had ammo in his gun, could've easily killed the two defenseless Orchestra members. But instead, he just let them run freely (back to their car that was seemingly equipped with a machine gun); a very bad choice, if you ask me.

Despite all the above points, I guess having all the core members of this arc alive allows for the continuation of the story. Judging by the preview, Chinatsu unfortunately goes crazy in the next episode. I'm expecting a showdown between Koko x Jonah and the Orchestra at the very end, with the former pair (not surprisingly) coming out on top.

Random: "Her name is Koko. She is loco. I said 'Oh, no!'" <3
