Amagami SS+ - Episode 12

Happily ever after~

With an obvious title like "Departure" the plot twist that happened at the midpoint of the episode was not surprising at all. The first half of the episode showcased the continual growth of Junichi and Haruka's relationship. Junichi's remarks never fail to make me facepalm, especially when he reads too much into Haruka's words, jumping to random conclusions that coincide with his fantasies. Nonetheless, when the situation calls for it, he ends up being able to deliver in ways that seem unrealistic.

The epic facepalm moments came during the graduation ceremony scene. When I saw Junichi walk up to the stage, alarms were going off in my head, warning me of the imminent public humiliation that he was most likely going to put himself through in order to prevent Haruka from going to England. While his speech started out quite well, the moment he put his script down was the signal for the start of his embarrassing rant. In front of the whole school, he retells of his relationship with Haruka. And if this wasn't bad enough, he goes on to proclaim his love for her in the loudest voice possible. I'm not sure what Haruka was feeling when she sat there listening to her boyfriend reveal everything to her fellow peers/classmates, but I'm certain that any girl would be dying of embarrassment right about now. To top it all off, Junichi does the predictable thing by proposing to her (no ring, though). Obviously, Haruka was overjoyed to hear that (probably forgetting about all the embarrassment) as it was what she wanted all along. And even though everyone was congratulating them while they embraced and kissed on stage, I can't help but feel that something like this would never, ever happen in real life. Alas, this is anime so I guess all's well.

The episode was wrapped up nicely with that wedding ceremony scene. In season one, even though they were married in the epilogue, the actual wedding wasn't shown. It was a real treat to see Haruka in a wedding dress! What's even better is that there's actually one more episode left. Although it's just a filler, fanservice, onsen episode, the fact that there's still more Amagami SS is enough to satisfy me. It also seems that Junichi won't be in it too (according to the preview) which makes me want to watch it all the more. I'll be looking forward to it.
