Senki Zesshou Symphogear - Episode 6

;__;

Surely, but slowly, the episodes are being released. This one in particularly got the series back on track. I enjoyed it for the most part but felt some things were questionable. Still, the series has fallen far from where it started; a promising first episode had caused my expectations to be high. And by the looks of the score on the MAL page, the future episodes don't look too bright. Nonetheless, I will not let this discourage me/influence my thoughts. My reviews will still be based solely on my own thoughts, though. Now then, for this episode, I've split the bulk of the review into the two paragraphs: one for the positives, and one for the negatives.

Starting off with the positives, the improving relationship between Hibiki and Tsubasa was definitely assuring. Seeing as how it seemed like there'd be no way the two would ever make ends meet, they made substantial progress in this episode. Secondly, Hibiki's chat with Tsubasa, although somewhat cliché, developed her character for the better. Her newly focused mindset has improved her personality slightly, making her less annoying. Tsubasa also benefited from this too, as she has become less emotionless. The end battle was also better than the previous ones as, this time, Hibiki was neither useless nor overpowered. She managed to (seemingly) defeat her opponent with her own strength.

If I were to be nitpicky, there'd probably be a lot of negativity that I could point out in this episode. First and foremost, the sudden change in Tsubasa's personality bugged me greatly. Going from someone who detests Hibiki to one who seems to be like a close mentor of some sort makes me question the realism of the relationship. On the other end of the spectrum, I find the tension between Hibiki and Miku has been dragging on for way too long. It's good to see that there may be a change in this since Hibiki's secret has been revealed, but prior to that, I was annoyed by their interactions. And after the events of the last episode, I'm surprised no one has questioned Ryōko yet. It's as if there was actually nobody who noticed the bloody briefcase corner. The showing of the lipstick on her cup of coffee made me suspect her even more as I don't think it was shown for no reason.

With that being said, having gone this far into the series already, I probably won't be dropping it anytime soon (unless it gets really bad). Nonetheless, I'm hoping for some more explanation to what's going on now. The story seemingly has no direction right now. All I know is that they're trying to transport Durandal and that there are two human antagonists who have shown themselves. Maybe it's the lack of direction that's hurting the show's score. Who knows? Awaiting the next episode.
