Nisemonogatari - Episode 8
なんだよ、これ!?
Halfway through the episode, I seriously had to double-check to see if I was actually watching Nisemonogatari and not some professional-looking fan animation created by someone who desires for an incestuous relationship between Koyomi and Karen. Furthermore, Tsukihi didn't even show up until near the end which begs the question: Is this really the beginning of the Tsukihi Phoenix arc? Personally, I can't really say I enjoyed the episode, but it was indeed amusing. The side of Karen that one would never imagine seeing, given her prior behavior towards her brother, being displayed for all to see was undoubtedly shocking. However, what surprised me the most was the fact that this actually happened in the light novel.
When Karen first came into the room, asking if Koyomi needed help with anything, I just thought that her intention was to repay him for helping her with the "bee" incident. But when Koyomi (and the camera) turned to face her, he and I both expressed pure bewilderment. The tomboyish Karen could no longer be seen; she was replaced by a much more feminine-looking Karen. Personally, I think change is good, especially this one. What follows is a lot of out-of-character behavior, rendering me unable confirm whether that really was Karen or not. It was foolish of me to think that it'd be impossible for things to get any weirder.
When Koyomi brought Karen's toothbrush, the first thought that came into my head was "Clean the toilet with this if you want me to introduce you to Kanbaru." While that would've been amusing, what came after both enlightened me and caused my eyes to grow wide in surprise. I truly have no idea how Koyomi came to the conclusion that having someone else brush your teeth for you would generate major psychological resistance, similar to how people don't like getting their hair touched. I mean, it's two totally different things and, yet, he managed to link them in a way that made a slight bit of sense. Anyhow, as the brushing continued, I started cringing, fearing that Koyomi would lose control of his body and be taken over by his sister's beauty and her seductive moaning. And if it hadn't been for Tsukihi the yandere, that might have actually happened. Even now I shudder thinking about that. To make things worse, it seems like Karen's on the same page as her brother, as she's the one who uses the interruption as an excuse to continue their little "game". As the episode ends with Koyomi and Karen embracing each other while falling on the bed, I, for one, don't want to know what happened after. Hurry up and come back with your awl Tsukihi-chan!
I'd also like to note that the new OP is platinum catchy. Tsukihi's plantinum moe dancing and platinum cute voice made the whole opening platinum enjoyable to watch. It's hard deciding which of the two sisters' songs I would prefer. I guess I'll wait a week or two before choosing. Lastly, I hope that this whole incident is revealed to just be Koyomi's dream next week.
