Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai - Episode 11
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (5/5)
Trying something new with the reviews. Hope it works.
The moment when two good friends, who haven't seen each other in 10 years, finally stand in front of each other face-to-face - it is not one of happiness, but of great joy. The world around the two slowly fades away as they reminisce about the times they spent together in the past. And now, the two can start from where they left off 10 years ago, and move forward together.
Even though it has been ten years, I find it weird that Kodaka forgot Yozora's nickname while she still remembers his, since they were both such great friends. But the flashbacks in the beginning were definitely foreshadowing something although I didn't expect the foreshadowed event to occur in the same episode.
But during the time in between Kodaka's dream about Sora (i.e. Yozora) and their actual encounter, a festival takes place, most likely used to integrate the other characters into the episode while preparing for the meeting between the Sora and Taka. Having never been to a Japanese festival, or Japan for that matter, I was intrigued by the plethora of stalls and exhibits that were present. The liveliness of the people and the beauty of the surrounding decorations (e.g. lanterns, stall designs, yukatas) really distinguish the festival from its Western counterpart, the carnival (at least that's what I see it as). Moreover, the food looks amazing. I am seriously dying to try out some authentic Japanese takoyaki; they look amazing.
To end off the festival, the Rinjinbu decide to launch some fireworks, which is apparently done in almost every anime. I don't what it is about fireworks, but they never get boring to watch, no matter how many times they're launched. Watching the group launch their fireworks was no different as I was also captivated by the bright explosion of lights in the night sky, just like them. However, as the last of the fireworks faded away, the Kodaka x Yozora relationship starts fading back into the story.
Somehow, Yozora's hair had caught on fire and, because he was panicking, Kodaka puts it out by throwing a whole bucket of water at her. This somehow, triggered something inside of Yozora as she leaves the rest of the group, her face downcast. She ends up not going to school for the next week which took me by surprise at first. However, when she finally makes her dramatic entrance into the classroom right after her name was called on the attendance list, I started smiling, seeing that she had cut her hair. It was all-too-obvious what was going to happen from there. As she walks past Kodaka, he finally sees the resemblance and calls out to her: "Sora?" (It seems like he made the pictorial connection between her hair and nickname). And when Yozora replied with, "Hisashiburi, Taka.", that was when I couldn't keep the grin off my face. Their reunion was so heartwarming and satisfying given that it's taken so long for it to happen. Now with one episode to go, I'm really hoping for a Kodaka x Yozora ending, even though I like Sena more. Definitely the best episode of the series so far.
