Ikoku Meiro no Croisée - Episode 4

("- __ -)     (@   x   @)
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (4/5)

I've got to say, I was quite surprised at how Alice turned out to be less annoying than I thought she would be. Despite her arrogant behavior, her obsession over Yune is quite cute. But I still can't be sure just yet as she still showed that she has a mischievous side with a not-so-friendly-looking smile. Unlike her younger sister, Camille didn't give any hints about her personality, making me wonder if she's putting up a kind front to cover up a devilish personality. Also, finding out that Claude's last name is "Claudel" got a laugh out of me. Think about it: Claude Claudel. Sounds weird, right? Anyways, another week of waiting for more Yune.

Just when I thought Yune forgot about the fact that she still can't eat cheese, the first, significant thing I see is Yune dipping cheese in soy sauce. And if that wasn't bad enough, she actually eats it right after. When Claude comes into the room, he takes a whiff of the bottle of soy sauce on the table and starts making faces of disgust. For Oscar, the soy sauce reminded him of his time in Japan where he ate beef stew with soy sauce. Yune then offers to make that for dinner tonight. Later that night, the butler of the Blanche family comes to the Enseignes du Roy and delivers Alice's message about wanting to meet Yune to Claude. Even though it wasn't shown, Claude obviously refused to let Yune near Alice because of his hate for the Blanche family. So when the butler informs Alice of Claude's response, she goes from excited to angry. However, this does not stop Alice, who decides to pay a visit to Claude herself instead. In the middle of the night, most likely for comic relief, Yune tries to take a bath using a bucket and water but is seen by Claude. The two immediately scream and, amidst the chaos, Yune knocks over the bucket of water, soaking herself. When the two finally finish cleaning everything up, Oscar, acting as the cultural bridge between Yune and Claude explains that Japanese people take baths every day whereas French people don't. After seeing the look of guilt on Yune's face, Claude tries to cheer her up by suggesting that they go to the bathhouse. While Yune goes to get ready, Alice enters the store, just like she said she would yesterday. When she sees Yune, she goes ballistic and starts fawning over the poor Japanese girl. While the ojou-sama is in a state of extreme joy, Claude escapes the store with Yune. Unfortunately, while they make their way to the bathhouse, Alice interrupts them and tries to persuade Yune to come back to the mansion with her. Although Claude ignores her, Yune thinks it is rude and decides to talk to Alice for a bit. Angered by this, Claude storms off while Alice and Yune start going back to the Blanche residence via carriage. Throughout the ride, Alice brags about which buildings her family owns. However, it was obvious that Yune, who ignored Alice the whole time, was troubled by the angry look on Claude's face as he left.

When the two reach the Blance residence, they sit down to have tea, something which Yune hasn't done before. Shortly after, Camille shows up, her beauty leaving Yune speechless. Meanwhile, one of Claude's friends spots him sulking down the street and, after the two sit down for some drinks, listens to the details regarding Yune and Alice. This guy also does the wrong thing by angering Claude even more when he says that the reason Yune left is because Claude isn't capable of taking care of someone. Back at the Blanche mansion, Alice brings Yune to an empty guest room and, after telling her that she can come here anytime, orders the maids to prepare the bath. While Yune enjoys the bath that she had waited so long for, Alice continues to pile on the reasons why Yune should stay here. But when the topic of her kimono came up, Yune's thoughts went straight back to Claude. On top of that, when Alice mentions dinner, Yune remembers that she promised to make dinner. Even though Alice tries to convince Yune to stay, the Japanese girl's stubborn but caring personality caused her to be determined to return to the Enseignes du Roy. Not wanting to lose this battle to Claude, Alice pulls out her trump card: Yune's precious kimono. She then explains that, if Yune stays here, she will return the kimono for free. Now if I were Yune, I would most likely take the offer considering the fact that it seems like a win-win situation if I do. However, Yune surprisingly refuses the offer and returns back to the Enseignes du Roy with the help of Alice and her butler. She then gets straight to work, cooking the Japanese beef stew. While she is cooking, Alice and Claude discuss Yune's "stubborn pose"; the one where she kneels flat on the ground. To end off this episode, Alice starts to embrace Yune again, expressing her desire to have Yune all to herself (don't take this the wrong way). In the end, Alice wasn't as annoying as I thought. In fact, her character is kind of cute. In the post-ED scene, Claude is shown secretly eating the beef stew that Yune made, something that he supposedly hated while Alice plots to make Yune hers. Yune seems to get lost next episode. Oh, no!
