A good build-up episode which I feel is setting up quite a bit of drama. With the landlady's hospitalization, Kou's arrival and Kissui Inn's influx in customers, Ohana has her hands full. The pressure is starting to mount and I believe that, without a doubt, she will be able to handle it. However, the light at the end of this tunnel does not seem to be near as of now. The staff of Kissui Inn will have to give it their all if the inn is to live for another day. A major setback here may spell the beginning of the end for Kissui Inn. The fate of the inn rests solely in the hands of the staff there. Will they be successful in pleasing the large amount of guests? Or will the pressure be too much for them to handle?
One bright morning, while at Fukuya Inn to deliver something, Ohana spots a magazine which ranked different inns with hot springs in them. After reading a bit more about it, Ohana decides that if Kissui Inn were to be in this magazine, more customers would come. However, Yuina highly doubted that. Back at Kissui, Enishi is just beginning to print out some vouchers that offers a free night's stay with two meals. This was idea was, unsurprisingly, from Takako. Shortly after he begins the printing process, the phone starts ringing and, one after another, multiple guests had called to make reservations. When Ohana started returning to Kissui, she spots Minko walking with several bags of groceries in her hands. After Minko tells her that Kissui Inn had just gotten a suden increase in customers, Ohana starts rambling on about what would happen if Kissui got into that ranking magazine she read earlier. Her delusions included her grandmother smiling, getting a large increase in salary, lots of time relaxing in the hot spring, eating delicious foods and playing Old Maid (this is a weird one). Back at the inn, the landlady learns of the increase of customers (seven groups; twenty people in total, to be exact) and doesn't seem too surprised by it. After making sure that the kitchen staff would be capable of handling the amount of customers, she reassures Tomoe that, if worst comes to worst, she would also help out as a waitress. As the loandlady leaves the staff room, Enishi and Tomoe both sense that the landlady is enjoying herself now because of the increase in business. As the Ohana and Minko were almost back at the inn, Ohana mistakenly pisses Minko off by bringing Tohru and Minko's love for him into the conversation. An angry and embarrassed Minko quickens her pace in an attempt to leave Ohana behind. After the two girls finally arrive back at the inn, Tomoe's cries of concern filled the lobby. Once the two rushed to where Tomoe was, they saw a frightening scene; the landlady wincing in pain. Minko quickly decides to get Enishi while Ohana decides to call the ambulance using her phone. However, the landlady's strong yell of "Baka!" made Ohana drop her phone in fear. Not knowing why calling an ambulance would be bad, Ohana just stood there, speechless. As the car with Ohana and her grandmother makes its way to the hospital, Enishi tells Tomoe that it's his time to shine. And just what does he do after saying that? He calls the always-reliable (/sarcasm) Takako. I sense things are going to go downhill from here.
At the hospital, Ohana receives orders from her grandmother to go back to the inn to help. Her grandmother also tells her that if an ambulance had been called back then, it may have scared some of the customers off. After hearing this, a small flame of anger burned inside Ohana who asked her grandmother if everything is about the customers. Her grandmother calmly blames the nature of the job for this way of thinking. Ohana, who obviously hates how her grandmother is acting, tells her that she won't be coming to see her again. Before Ohana leaves, her grandmother starts to say something about a notebook but decides not to in the end. During the ride back home, Ohana attempts to call her mother but no one picks up the phone. After staring at her phone for a while, she notices that her wallpaper is set to a picture of Kou. She contemplates calling him but hesitates because she is unsure of what to tell him. At that moment, Kou coincidentally calls her, almost making her drop her phone in surprise. After a picking up and making some small talk, Kou tells her that he is on the train to visit her. Unfortunately, she doesn't quite catch what he said and her phone battery runs out soon after, cutting their conversation short. Back at the inn, the staff all gather for last minute preparations with Jiroumaru-san and Takako leading the planning. After coming to the illogical conclusion of the undercover reporter(s) of the hot springs ranking magazine being responsible for the increase in customers, Takako declares that the plan is to give the reporter(s) (who Jiroumaru-san suspects to be either the pair of ladies in the corridor or the single man in the lounge) the best service. Ohana's concerns about this plan are quickly shot down by Takako who gives the group a final bit of advice before telling everyone to get into their positions. After everyone leaves, Takako brings Ohana along with her to the kitchen where she pressures Ren to the point where he is unable to perform any task correctly. As the customers start arriving, Ohana feels a bit guilty about giving some customers better service than others. While taking out the trash, she remembers that her grandmother mentioned something about a notebook. She then quickly rushes to her grandmother's room where so finds said notebook. Upon opening it, she is blown away by the neatness of the writing. Meanwhile, things were getting a little bit tense as Ren is no longer able to cook food efficiently due to the pressure. Because of this, Takako announces that they will prioritize the needs of the groups suspicious of being the reporter(s). Right when everybody thought that there was no other choice and this had to be done, Ohana suddenly appears and firmly rejects the plan. She then walks up to Takako, with the notebook in hand, and tells her that the landlady would be really mad if something like that was to be done. Equality had always been a defining quality of Kissui Inn, dating back to the time when the landlady was still a waitress. That is why, no matter how difficult it is, Ohana believes that they must treat all customers fairly. However, Enishi reminds everyone of the problem still at hand; the problem of being short-staffed. Luckily for them, Ohana had already called Nako and told her to come. As for the kitchen, Tohru was the only one that could be of help. When Nako finally arrived, Ohana quickly asked to borrow the keys to Nako's bicycle and rushed to get Tohru who was apparently at a wedding. After barely making it onto a train, Ohana takes some time to turn her phone on again and sees that she missed five calls from Kou. When the train makes its stop, Ohana runs on foot the the wedding hall where Tohru is. When she finally reaches the hall, she frantically tries searching for Tohru. Meanwhile, Kou had stepped off his train and possibly started to make his way towards Kissui Inn. With everything falling into place, the next episode should be a real treat. Hopefully, the staff at Kissui Inn will be able to look back on this day and remember the thrilling experiences that came with it. Really looking forward to the next episode.
