Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko - Episode 6

Erio-chan's Hairstyle #3
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (4/5)

I surprisingly find Ryuuko a bit annoying now after watching this episode. What I find the most annoying is when she uses her hyper behavior to cover up her feelings for Makoto. If she was more direct with him, she might have a chance, even if he's dense. As of now, I am fully supporting a Makoto x Erio ending. This episode, used to set up the next, was quite entertaining nonetheless but needed more Erio in the first half. On a side note, Erio showed up with a different hairstyle, her third in six episodes which looked nice but was not as good as the twintails.

The episode starts off with a short monologue by Ryuuko which included her comparison of Makoto and candy. She sees the relation between them as nothing but friends who are there for each other. Her thoughts are cut off when she hears the voice of her friend, who she was waiting for, calling her. As the two girls leave school on their bicycles, the topic of Ryuuko's boyfriend comes up. Since she is not too sure about her relationship with Makoto she wisely changes the topic by spouting some random nonsense. Soon after, the two girls [coincidentally] arrive at the candy shop where Erio works at. Judging by how familiar Ryuuko is with the place, it would be safe to guess that she knows the old lady that owns the store. Upon opening the door, the two girls are surprised to see Erio instead of the old lady. While eating outside the store  in order to avoid Erio, Ryuuko's friend suggests that they shouldn't come here anymore. A short flashback shows a time when Erio created a scene of commotion back when she was still at school.  As Ryuuko took a peek inside the store, she sees Makoto and Erio talking which evoked some jealousy inside her. In order to find out more about their their relationship, Ryuuko sacrifices the opportunity to go shopping with her friend and decides to spy on Makoto and Erio.

The next day, Ryuuko finds herself at the alone in the rain near Tamura Market, in hopes of getting her questions about Makoto and Erio answered. She also quickly realizes that she is not the only one who is watching the store carefully. The other two "spies" around her are Meme and some mysterious man. Shortly after noticing the two, Meme surprises Ryuuko by suddenly appearing behind her, almost knocking the poor girl off her feet. In order to make herself feel young, Meme introduces herself as "Miss Smooth and Silky" which referred to the surface of her skin. When asked why she was here, Ryuuko told Meme that she was here for someone who she wanted to be more than just friends with, hinting that she liked Makoto. Meme then explains to her that she just described love. When asked why she was here, Meme told Ryuuko that this is a "parent's day" for her, as it is Erio's first day at work. As for the final person in the scene, Meme explains to Ryuuko that the guy was stalking her. It's weird how she says it so calmly, like she isn't fazed by a stalker. Just then, Makoto pulls up in front of the store on his bicycle, ending the conversation. Upon seeing the door to the store open, Erio sees Makoto and a big smile appears on her face. However, when Ryuuko appears from behind him, that smile vanishes. When Makoto asks why she is here at the store, Ryuuko didn't have the courage to say that it is because she wants to see him so, instead, she makes up the excuse of coming here to buy something. After making a random purchase, Ryuuko decides to see the old lady with Erio offering to show the way to the old lady's room. There, the topic of friendship is brought up by the old lady which causes Erio and Ryuuko to feel awkward. Also, for some strange reason, the old lady already knew about Ryuuko's reason for coming here and kicked the three out for disturbing her with their 'love comedies". Outside the store, Ryuuko tries once again to shatter the bond between Makoto and Erio by telling him that Erio has a bad reputation at school and that hanging out with her would cause him to be shunned by his classmates. Her jealously really pissed me off there. She then tells him what her friend said about not coming to Tamura Market anymore because Erio is there. After saying all this, she asks him is he hates her now because of everything she has said. Even though he said he denied that he hated her, Ryuuko began to use her hyperactive behavior as a cover for the sadness that she feels whenever she sees Erio and Makoto getting along. Finally, she runs off screaming how much she hates her own weakness, leaving Makoto wondering what had just happened. Back inside the old lady's room, Makoto asks her for advice on what to do about the whole situation regarding Erio. While she drinks cup after cup of tea, she gives Makoto some advice that I don't understand. However, there was one thing that stood out from her rambling. She told Makoto that friends aren't necessary because you don't need them to live. I know that she has a point but I personally don't agree with her. Anyhow, after she says that, the words after start making sense. She tells him not to worry about other people's friends (i.e. Ryuuko's friend saying that he would be shunned if he got along with Erio). To end off, she tells him that she thinks she is going to be cattle mutilated by aliens very soon, her complex way of referring to death I believe.

One week later, while having lunch at school with Makoto, Maekawa-san brings up the idea of going to his house. While nervously calculating the possible adolescent points he can gain through this, he forgets to take account of his nervousness which leads to him pretending to pick up rice from his bowl. Once he regains his composure, he asks Maekawa-san what she thinks of Erio. She responds by saying that, since there is a time and place for everything, where does Erio belong. This answer gave Makoto something to think about. After school, even without Makoto agreeing to it, Maekawa-san prepares to go to his house. Ryuuko then approaches them, curious about where they are headed. Just like in Episode 4, Maekawa-san causes another misunderstanding when she told Ryuuko that they were going to Makoto's place to do "all sorts of things". After a short period of acting crazy, Ryuuko calms down and decides to join the two in their trip to Makoto's house. On there way there, they meet Erio and she joins them. Once inside the house, the four head to Makoto's room. Before getting there, Ryuuko spots a cute toy in Erio's room and starts playing with it. Erio didn't like that Ryuuko touched it without permission so she asks Makoto for help. However, he tells her do it herself which resulted in an awkward apology from Ryuuko. Finally, they reach Makoto's room. There, Erio and Ryuuko fight for Makoto's attention, something that he didn't realize. During all the commotion, Maekawa-san just sat there, enjoying the entertainment. After a long afternoon of being juggled between the two girls, Makoto was obviously exhausted. Right when Ryuuko and Maekawa-san were about to leave, Meme shows up at the door. Then, after whispering something in Maekawa-san's ear, Meme leaves with her, leaving dinner preparations to the three left behind and hinting to everyone that Ryuuko likes Makoto. Now with the people of the love triangle alone in the house, the real drama should start. Personally, I would prefer a Makoto x Erio ending but I'll have to wait and see. Really looking forward to the next episode.
