TARI TARI - Episode 8
Blogger's Note: So, apparently Daiz of Underwater is suffering from anime apathy and is therefore lacking the motivation (and funding) to fansub. Thus, after one episode of Underwater's TARI TARI, the switch back to Commie has been made.
Looking past all the clichés and cheesy friendship speeches, this episode is exactly what I expected from a show like TARI TARI; relaxing slice-of-life elements with a hint of drama that is easy to relate to. Regarding Sawa's arc, I think it's safe to say many people have been in her shoes (i.e. family troubles regarding one's future). Being able to relate to the characters is an important part in understanding and empathizing with them; both Sawa and Wakana are realistic characters with realistic problems. Thus, I can say that I'm enjoying this arc as much as I did the last. And although this episode was really great, it was unfortunate that there wasn't enough time to show the five singing together in joy and unity.
Now that eight episodes have passed, each of the choir club member's roles in the group has more or less been solidified. First off, Konatsu brings the laughs to the table with her childish appearance and personality. Despite this, she's also very caring and can be serious at times, making her a solid character. Similarly, Wien also succeeds in getting laughter out of people (more so the audience I would assume), utilizing his often awkward behaviour to his advantage. Out of the five, he's probably the most interesting, given his mysterious past. Prior to her arc, Wakana was cold and quiet type. But now, she's more calm and collected (showcased very well during her confrontation with Sawa), with a newfound optimistic look in life. As for Sawa, she acts as the tsukkomi when it comes to Konatsu's craziness. But after her recent experiences, I have a feeling her outlook on life may also change, just like how Wakana's did after she came to terms with her own personal issues. Lastly, Taichi seems like your average high school athlete. Hopefully, he'll get some more exposure so that he'll become less of a one-dimensional character.
Judging by the preview, the Sawa arc appears to be over. Next up looks to be the Wien arc, which I'm definitely excited for. With that said, there might be an episode to transition between the arcs so maybe I'll have to wait until Episode 10. Nonetheless, I hope TARI TARI continues to be an enjoyable show.
