Shinryaku!? Ika Musume - Episode 4

Surf's up, Mini Ika-chan~

Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (5/5)

Best episode thus far with all the English, tickling and the return of Mini Ika Musume. All three parts were top quality and induced quite a few laughs from me, especially the one with all the obviously-not-Japanese-seiyuu English. In fact, I think "English じゃなイカ!?" is my favorite story out of both seasons. I think it would've been much funnier if the seiyuus were the ones speaking English Engrish. Not sure if the next episode will be as good as this one since the story titles are either too vague or don't make sense to me. Nonetheless, still looking forward to it and hopefully Mini Ika Musume shows up more often.

English じゃなイカ!? (Won't You Speak English!?)
While taking a walk one day, Takeru encounters a foreigner (I still don't get why Japanese people make foreigners look so ugly...) who asks for directions... IN ENGLISH! Not knowing how to respond, the poor boy rushes back to the Beach House Lemon and pleads for Eiko to teach him English. Ika Musume chimes in shortly after, saying she wants to learn it, too, in order to invade America. Although Eiko couldn't teach them, she claims to know someone who could. That person turns out to be Cindy, who in reality, can't speak English since her voice actress is Japanese. Putting that fact aside and assuming that, since she's an American, Cindy speaks fluent English, bringing her over to the Aizawa residence as an English teacher is a great idea. Below is their conversation in English.

Note: Eiko doesn't understand English, Ika Musume joins in after quickly learning the basics and Chizuru knows a bit of English.
Cindy: How are you?
Takeru: I'm fine, thank you. And you?
Cindy: I'm fine, too. Thank you.
Cindy teaches Ika Musume about English. I believe Ika Musume's seiyuu speaks here. It's not too bad, considering how horrible the Engrish of some other Japanese speakers is.
Ika Musume: It is really easier than speaking Japanese, ~de geso.
Ika Musume: They say one who masters English is to become the master of all.
Ika Musume: Now the world invasion is going to be such a piece of cake.
Cindy: Really, is that so?
Eiko realizes she is now the only one in the group who can't speak English.
Takeru: Hey, nature is calling me.
Eiko interprets Takeru as saying "Sister Ice Water"
Cindy: Go ahead.
Takeru: Thank you.
Ika Musume explains to Eiko about what Takeru said.
Cindy brings up the idea of Ika Musume teaching others.

Ika Musume (Eiko's Imagination): You are O•BA•KA
Eiko rages.
Ika Musume: What's the problem?
Chizuru enters the room with drinks.
Chizuru: Why are you raising your voice like that?
Chizuru: How is it coming along?
Takeru: Good. Learning English is fun.
Ika Musume: I've invaded English, ~de geso.
Chizuru: You're learning so fast.
Chizuru: Ms. Cindy must be a good teacher.
Cindy: Oh, Chizuru, you speak English, too?
Chizuru: A little bit.
Cindy (towards Eiko): And you...?
Eiko tries to escape the situation.
Ika Musume: Hey, wait a minute!!
Ika Musume bumps into the table.
Ika Musume: Ow!!

The rest of the conversation is between Eiko and Cindy and how Cindy misinterprets Eiko's Japanese as English. The misunderstandings are hilarious but you've got to watch it to see what I mean. In the end, Cindy leaves the house after thinking Eiko said "alligator" when, in reality, she said "arigatou" (thank you). Thinking that she was able to break through the language barrier, Eiko is now confident in her communication skills with foreigners. This turns out to be a big mistake as, sometime after, she and Ika Musume come across the same foreigner that Takeru saw. Their conversation is below:

Foreigner: I beg your pardon.
Eiko: (Random Japanese that resembles what the man just said)
Foreigner: Yes, which way is Yuigahama Station?
Eiko: I'll kill you. (She meant "You can walk there.")
Foreigner is scared of her and starts running away.
Foreigner: I'll find the rest of the way on my own...
Foreigner: Thanks a lot.

止めなイカ!? (Won't You Stop!?)
After learning about tickling from Eiko, Ika Musume sets her eyes on the patrons at the Beach House Lemon. She goes around tickling everyone (except Sanae) and, eventually, has to be stopped by Eiko in order to prevent further damage. However, the success of her tickling attacks gives Ika Musume the idea of using it against Chizuru. At first, Eiko voices her concern for Ika Musume's safety but, after some persuasion, allows the hyped-up squid girl to execute her plan. Unfortunately, her ambush on Chizuru fails since it turns out that tickling her sides has no effect. But since Ika Musume attempted this, Chizuru acknowledges this as an all-out declaration of war and proceeds to tickle her until she passes out from laughter. All that laughter also results in hiccups which, in the squid world at least, must be stopped by the 30th one or else something bad will happen. And to stop them, Ika Musume claims that she must be made "happy." Unfortunately, things like winning at video games, getting a massage and receiving allowance couldn’t get rid of the hiccups. The urgency to get rid of them increases when Ika Musume informs Eiko that her tentacles will mutate and start attacking people at the 30th hiccup. With that in mind, a delicious lobster feast prepared by Chizuru is presented to Ika Musume, which she promptly devours. But when the hiccups still didn't disappear, Chizuru resorts to the only option left: scaring the hiccups away by threatening to kill Ika Musume via her yandere mode. After what seemed to be death strike was revealed to have been a miss on purpose, Ika Musume rejoices at the fact that she's still alive (her hiccups also disappeared) and starts jumping up and down with joy.

流れなイカ!? (Won't You Flow!?)
One day, Takeru decides to go with his friends to a nearby river to play. Ika Musume ends up joining them and is tasked as their supervisor by Eiko. Once at the river (which Ika Musume called a narrow ocean), the boys decide to race boats made out of bamboo leaves. After being taught how to make one, Ika Musume creates hers, naming it the Black Tiger and placing a rock in it, claiming that it cannot be called a boat if there's nothing in it. Unbeknownst to the fact that it will sink once placed on water, Ika Musume proudly walks to the river to prepare for the race. The boys, however, are wary of this and the fact that Ika Musume's pride is on the line here; not to mention that they think she's a sore loser and will get very angry if she loses. In order to ensure her victory, one of them boys persuades Ika Musume to replace the black rock with his pumice rock while the others plan to sabotage their own boats once the race starts. Meanwhile, Takeru stands away from the group, not knowing whether or not he should tell the others that their impression of Ika Musume is not a true reflection of her character. Midway through the race, after all the other boats have been taken down, Ika Musume continues to chase her boat down the river. All of a sudden, the rock is replaced by Mini Ika Musume, showing her adventures as she floats downstream in her boat. Along the way, she manages to survive a waterfall, see a school of fish jump in and out of the water and surf a bit before ending up in the ocean. As for Ika Musume, who followed the boat the whole time, she realizes that the river connects to the sea and concludes that everything on the surface of the earth eventually returns back to sea. Upon looking around, she spots the Beach House Lemon as well, or so she thinks. Upon reaching this particular beach house, she realizes that it's not the Lemon, but the Lenon instead. When sunset came, Ika Musume is still nowhere to be seen by those at the Lemon. The question now is, "Will we ever get to see Ika-chan again?"
