Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (5/5)
It's been a while since an anime episode got me full-out laughing for an extended period of time, but this episode of Shinryaku!? Ika Musume was able to do just that, thanks to the wonderfully epic scene of Ika Musume
散歩しなイカ!? (Won't You Take a Walk!?)
Awaiting the arrival of Ika Musume, Sanae starts fangirling, neglecting her poor dog, Alex. To make things worse, when Ika Musume does arrive at her house, Sanae starts clinging to her, much to Alex's dismay. In an attempt to eliminate the competition, Alex attacks Ika Musume with a ferocious bite and a new rivalry is created. Eiko then suggests that Ika Musume to take Alex for a walk, thinking that it will help the two get to know each other. Unfortunately, things don't go as planned, with Alex getting owned by both a larger dog and a smaller dog. All the while, Ika Musume's image of the dog gets worse and worse. Sensing this, Alex goes over to her and starts urinating, 'pissing' Ika Musume off even more (lol, pun intended). In the end, the two arrive at a dead end and, after realizing that both she and the dog have similar negative traits, Ika Musume starts to encourage Alex and give him advice. Along their way back to Sanae's residence, they pass by a dog fetching a ball thrown by its owner. Amazed and wanting to replicate this, Ika Musume takes off her sandals (given to her by Eiko) and throws in front of Alex. Unfortunately, Alex does not copy the other dog and, instead, takes the sandal and flings it over a tall fence, into the backyard of another house. However, his plan backfires as Ika Musume forces him to go retrieve it. This turns out to be a bad idea as Alex gets severely beat up by the large dog there. Luckily, Ika Musume comes in time to save Alex from what looked to be a sure death. But in the end, even the skilled squid girl was no match for the power and agility of the opposing dog as she ends up being tackled to the ground. The aggressive dog then rips the sandal out of Ika Musume's hands and into the air. Amazingly, Alex, against all odds, ends up with the sandal in his mouth. Knowing that they won't be able to win this battle by force, Ika Musume and Alex make a run for it and escape with no further damage. Upon returning to Sanae, Ika Musume gets clung onto again, making Alex get jealous again. In the end, the walk barely did anything as both squid girl and dog are still on bad terms.
体操しなイカ!? (Won't You Exercise!?)
Early one morning, Ika Musume spots a bunch of lifeless elementary school kids doing amusing morning exercises (weird in her case). But after the exercises, she realizes that the kids look energetic now; this change amazes her. Back at the Beach House Lemon, Ika Musume tries to memorize the exercise moves while doing her job of serving customers. Let's just say things don't turn out so well, especially after causing Chizuru to go into yandere mode (a knife was involved) by throwing a whole bowl of ramen into her face. Unable to stop her thoughts from wandering to those exercise moves, Ika Musume decides to go watch the group again the next morning. And when the next day does arrive, the instructor, despite seeing how out of place Ika Musume looked within the crowd of children, allows her to participate. This ends up being a bad decision as the kids all end up getting tentacle whipped. When the instructor finally turns around and sees that Ika Musume is the only one left standing, he, after expressing his shock, isolates her for the rest of the exercises. Once finished, the participants line up to have their attendance cards stamped, with Ika Musume receiving a new one with this being her first time. Back at the Aizawa residence, Takeru explains to Ika Musume that she can get a prize for filling up the card with stamps. Unfortunately, this gives her the wrong idea and, after the next exercise session, she goes up to the instructor and asks for a prize after showing him the card full of (fake) stamps. This results in the instructor telling poor Ika Musume to never come back again.
助けなイカ!? (Won't You Help!?)
This story starts out with Ika Musume helping a bunch of boys get their beach ball back from the middle of the ocean using her super-special-awesome tentacles. Upon seeing the speed of her tentacles, Gorou suggests that she become a lifeguard. As compensation for her hard work, Gorou offers a special fried shrimp bento made by Chizuru; a sacrifice worth making if Ika Musume is able to do all the work. Lost in his thoughts of Chizuru, Gorou doesn't notice Ika Musume devouring the bento. But since she ate it, he assumes that she is agreeing to become a lifeguard, and thus, begins to train her. But as expected, Ika Musume turns out to be an incompetent lifeguard, causing Gorou to get quite frustrated with her once the day came to an end. Despite Ika Musume trying to redeem herself by preventing a couple of kids from running into the ocean that had some pieces of glass floating in it, Gorou believed that she was trying to get in the way of the swimmers instead of protecting them. But when the kids start drowning, Ika Musume's quick action makes Gorou think twice about the squid girl's desire to save people. To end things, Ika Musume lightly scolds the kids and laughs along with them. How heartwarming.
