Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai - Episode 4

I think Tsuruko has no future in the field of visual arts
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (4/5)

I knew it! Yukiatsu was trolling Jinta all along. On top of that, it appears he is a psychopathic crossdresser. Things are starting to get interesting now as Yukiatsu is no longer seen as the tough, cool guy he used to be. Instead, he is now labelled as a Menma-obsessed freak in my books, even though he acted like he didn't care Menma. On the other hand, it must be really, really embarrassing for him to be seen like this by the others. I wonder what he is going to say to the other four in the next episode. It should be some good drama.

The episode picks up from right where the last one left off. Everyone except Yukiatsu (*cough* troll... *cough) is now looking Menma, including Menma herself. However, Jinta stops midway and tells Anaru that there only needs to be one Menma. Somehow that topic changes to school and Jinta tells her that the words that he doesn't care what she or her friends say. That must have pissed her off because she starts running after him. Suddenly, she looses her footing and almost falls. Luckily, Jinta saves her from what looked to be deadly drop into a river. A closer look at the river reveals that it is the one Menma most likely died in. Having already lost one friend, Jinta definitely doesn't want to lose another. In the end, the group was unable to find Mena (obviously). When they get back, Yukiatsu starts trolling again, saying that Menma told him that she didn't want everyone to be so bothersome. It was quite obvious that he was lying but the others seemed to be losing their hope about the whole "find Menma" thing. Even though no one but Jinta could hear her, Menma, amidst tears, tells everyone that she is very happy to have them all remember her and that she was much happier because of this. Stupid Yukiatsu causing Menma to suffer even after she already died. People like him need to go DIAF. In an attempt to stop the tension from building, Jinta shows everyone the steamed bread that Menma made. At first, everyone thought that it was nostalgic because Jinta's mom used to make them but when Jinta said that Menma made them, Yukiatsu starts laughing and makes fun of Jinta for going too far with a lie. Even after that, Jinta tells them that he doesn't care if they think that something is wrong with his mind because he heard what Menma said about being happy. Disgusted about not being able to piss off Yadomi enough, Yukiatsu leaves the scene. A depressed-looking Jinta leaves soon after. While the remaining three members ate the rest of the food, Tsuruko questions Poppo about the Menma he saw the other day. Surprisingly, she, for some reason, knew that the Menma he saw wore a small blue ribbon.

Back at Jinta's place, Menma tries to cheer him up from his depressed state. After trying various things, she at least gets him to tell her that she hasn't changed at all. Menma wasn't too sure whether to take that as a compliment or not but she was still glad that Jinta finally said something. Not wanting to think about what Anaru said about him liking Menma, Jinta decides to turn off the lights and go to sleep. Meanwhile at Tsuruko's place, she has just finished drawing and coloring a picture of Menma which actually looked quite accurate. The next day, Tsuruko comes over to Jinta's place early in the morning. Apparently the reason why she came over was to ask Jinta to do a favor for her. I have a feeling this had to do with Yukiatsu's thoughts on Menma. Later in the day, while Anaru and her egotistical friends are chilling at WcDonalds, she sees Tsuruko and Jinta walking by. Curious about why they were together, she hurriedly tells her friends that she just remembered she had something to do. Her constant cold attitude towards her friends seem to have pissed them off. Sooner or later, those stupid people are going to leave Anaru (which will actually be beneficial). When she finally catches up with Tsuruko, Jinta had just began to initiate Tsuruko's plan. As Yukiatsu jogs past him, Jinta starts bringing the topic of Menma up. As Yukiatsu's anger reaches a boiling point, he firmly tells Jinta that things are not the same as before and that he never thought of him as a leader before. When Yuikatsu gets home, he opens his closet in anger and tells Menma to come out so that they can show Jinta. This is the part where I was quite certain that he was the Menma that Poppo saw. Later that night at the Secret Base, the group (excluding Yukiatsu) gathered and talked a bit. A few minutes into their conversation, Poppo goes to the washroom but suddenly rushes out a short while later, declaring that he had just saw Menma. After a while of chasing down Menma (I mean Yukiatsu), Tsuruko decided she had enough and told Yukiatsu that no matter what he does, he will never be Menma. Fearing that his cover had been blown, he tries to run away but the forest environment got the better of him, causing him to trip and fall, losing his wig in the process. And now, the drama builds. The episode should contain the answer to why Yukiatsu did this and, hopefully, shows the group becoming closer, even if it is just a little. Looking forward to it.
