Summer 2012

Naturally, I'd want to blog about all the series I plan to watch in the Summer 2012 season, but seeing as how it was so difficult for me to keep up with everything in Spring 2012, I have no choice but to cut down on the number of series I'll blog about. That's not to say I'll be watching a lot of series anyways; I have six hours less (excluding commute time) a week for myself in July and August since another one of my summer courses has started.

Now to get back to the topic of anime, judging by past experiences, I'm planning to stick to blogging about series which have the potential to incur lots of thinking and/or analysis on the part of the audience. That's not to say I don't enjoy slice-of-life or comedy shows; in fact, SoL is near the top of my favourite genres. As always, I'm open to suggestions as to what I should or should not blog about. And without further ado, here are my picks for the Summer 2012 season, now with some of my quick thoughts on each title.

Update 1: It appears there's no scheduled air date for Arve Rezzle. This means it may or may not be airing this summer (even though it was announced to be). In the latter case, I might just end up picking up all three of the shows on my "Will Watch But (Probably) Not Review" list.
Update 2: Added TARI TARI to and removed Campione! from the list.
Update 3: Removed Arve Rezzle as it has been announced that it's going to an OVA, rather than a TV series.
Update 4: Added Kokoro Connect.

An anime based on body switching that has both comedic and serious moments? Sounds like a good recipe for success to me. And based on the first two episodes, it has some bloggable material.
Kokoro Connect (Added July 21st, 2012)

The five members of the Cultural Study group that meets in class 401 have spent a lot of time wondering what it would be like to be in someone else's shoes. But they're about to learn that there's a huge difference between thinking about something and literally BEING in someone else's shoes! Because that's exactly what happens when, suddenly and inexplicably, they each find themselves inside the body of the girl (or boy) next door!

What happens next? Well, besides bringing a whole new meaning to the term "Exchange Student" and the expected freaked out runs to the bathroom, it's not hard to do the math: Take one wrestling geek, the resident cool girl, the class clown, the popular chick and one sultry maid of mystery, scramble thoroughly and divide, and you can bet that pretty soon they'll be answering ALL of the questions they never wanted to know about the opposite sex in ways they never anticipated!

This is probably the series of the season, with all the hype and whatnot surrounding it. With Accel World still airing, there's no doubt the two will be compared (both contain an aspect of virtual reality). Personally, I think SAO has a good chance of surpassing AW.
Sword Art Online

The only way to escape is to 'clear' the game. Death in game means actual 'death' ----

The ten thousand who have logged onto the as of yet mysterious game 'Sword Art Online' using their Nerve Gear have been forced into this perilous death game and are trapped inside.

Protagonist Kirito, one of the many gamers, has greeted this 'truth'. He plays as a solo player in the giant castle that is the stage for this game ---- 'Aincrad'.

To meet the conditions of clearing the game and leaving this twisted virtual world, he must get through all 100 floors. Will Kirito have what it takes to clear the game, or will he die trying?

This looks like another Hanasaku Iroha (P.A. Works) except it's in less of a rural setting. The characters do look a bit more appealing in this series. I'll definitely be watching it but not sure if I'll also be blogging about it. I'm willing to give it a try, though.
TARI TARI (Added July 2nd, 2012)

The story centers around five Japanese high school students who are too young to be called adults, but who no longer think of themselves as children.

Wakana Sakai once took music lessons, but she withdrew from music after losing her mother. Konatsu Miyamoto is a positive-thinking girl who loves singing and spends time after school at the vocal music club. Sawa Okita is a spirited archery club member who dreams of becoming a horse rider. Daichi Tanaka is a chronically late badminton team member who lives with his college student sister. "Wiin" just transfered into Wakana's class after 12 years abroad in Australia.

Music brings Wakana, Konatsu, Sawa and the others together into an ensemble during their last summer in high school.

Continuing From Spring 2012
Will Watch But (Probably) Not Review
Note: Since I've only planned to blog about a few series this season, there's a chance (denoted by the percentage in brackets) I may add a couple more during the first few weeks of airing.
Pretty much set on everything now.
