Kokoro Connect - Episode 1, 2
While the first episode was more on the comedic side of things—introducing the body swapping and the effects it had on the Cultural Research Club members—the second one was where things started to pick up, while still having little gags here and there. From the trivial things like going to the bathroom to the major troubles like having to act like the person whose body you're in, switching bodies is actually not as simple and fun as it seems, especially if you're involved in it. True, I admit for the first few instances of it that I was chuckling at how the characters were put into such unfortunate and embarrassing situations because of the swapping, but soon afterwards, I began to look more deeply into this matter.
More so in Episode 2, the body switching enables the characters to slowly learn more about one another's daily lives. For instance, Iori's situation at home was unknown to everyone else before Yui noticed it due to the switching. I'm almost certain that she's at least a bit disheartened by it but her cheerful attitude has allowed this to go unnoticed by the others all this time. Similarly, I'm sure the others also have their own troubles that they're dealing with, either at home, school, or elsewhere. I believe the five will continue to grow closer through their experiences within one another's bodies, eventually enabling them to act flawlessly when switched. This may just be what the mysterious "Heartseed" had in mind when he informed them that this will all end when they show him something that he can call "interesting".
But right now, Taichi's going to be having some fun settling the misunderstanding created by Himeko regarding his relationship with Iori. There will probably be some drama too in the next episode so I'll be looking forward to that as well. While I really like Kokoro Connect, I'm hoping it continues to provide some decent material to blog about in the episodes to come.
As always, OP and ED analysis.
OP: It's a pretty jumpy song that matches the show's theme. I can imagine the three girls singing this and it'd probably fit. To me, it's a nice song but wasn't too outstanding in any way.
ED: Having a high-octane OP and a slower ED seems quite common nowadays. Once again, it's hard to compare the two, but in terms of enjoyment, I'd pick the ED since I really loved the chorus of the song. It's another one of those songs where it's catchy not in the sense that it makes you want to sing along when you hear it, but more so that it's hard to get it out of your head.
