Hyouka - Episode 15
So, the Jūmonji case gets off to an interesting start. For a native speaker, this might be one of the more trivial patterns to figure out since it dealt with the gojūon (hiragana), which to Japanese speakers is like the alphabet to English speakers. For them, it was probably like hearing "An a??? got stolen from the A??? Club, a b??? got stolen from the B??? Club, a c??? got stolen from the C??? Club, etc." That aside, the end result of this mystery might not be as simple as those in the past, which Hōtarō ended up solving sooner or later. Instead, the other side of Satoshi, which has only been briefly shown a few times before, looks to be emerging now, slowly turning the cheerful and carefree database into a serious and analytical detective.
Although Tōgaito is less suspicious now given that his club also had something stolen from them (or so he says), none of the other characters that have been introduced so far raise enough suspicion to take over as the new prime suspect. With the mystery thief closing in on a club that starts with "ko"—which we all know will end up being the Classic Club—it'll be interesting to see how he/she pulls off the theft with Hōtarō and co. anxiously expecting it. However, given that one of the Magic Club's candles was stolen at an unexpected time and place, something tells me the Classic Club will also fall victim to Jūmonji, regardless of how focused they are on their surroundings. And only at that time will we able to witness the extent of both Hōtarō's and Satoshi's deduction skills, which should make for an exciting show.
Looking back, Hōtarō has really changed. I'm sure both Mayaka and Satoshi already realized this since they have been friends with Mr. Gray Lifestyle for years. In the end, it wasn't the dull that suppressed the vibrant, but rather, the other way around; Eru's bubbly personality positively influenced Hōtarō to become more motivated in life, as shown by his surprising eagerness to solve this mystery, despite being hesitant at first. Though maybe Eru's starting to run out of steam now as she seems to be getting worn out from everything that has been going on in the festival so far. And let's not forget Mayaka, who continues to struggle with the animosity between her and a few of the Manga Society's members. In a nutshell, the four Classics Club members all have their fair share of concerns and troubles to deal with now. But because they don't want to make one another worry, they keep these struggles to themselves. Let's just see how long it takes for them to realize that, by confiding in one another, they'll be able to solve their problems much more quickly.
