Inu x Boku SS - Episode 8

How could you say "No" to that face?

As much as I like Inu x Boku SS, I have to admit that the lack of plot advancement is starting to bother me. The reason for Ririchiyo's inability to express her thoughts towards Sōshi is valid, but I think it has been shown too often as of late. The only plot-important events that happened in this episode and the last were Ririchiyo finally being able to thank Sōshi and inviting him for coffee. Those two events totalled for approximately five minutes out of the 40-something that two episodes take.

While the last episode was more about Ririchiyo's problems, this episode focused on what Ririchiyo thought of Sōshi's personality. An important lesson to take from this is that absolute loyalty is not always the best decision when wanting to strengthen a relationship. In fact, it can be seen that Ririchiyo would actually prefer that she and Sōshi be on the same level. However, those who haven't read the manga only get a glimpse of Sōshi's past as he explains that his whole life was one of total servility. Knowing his past, it's easy to understand why he acts the way he does. When you put the different lives of the two together, you can see that, on the surface, the coupling of Ririchiyo and Sōshi seems like it will never work. But I believe this is the focus of the whole story - showing that two opposites attract.

With four episodes left to go, I'm quite sure that there'll be three more manga episodes and one anime original (filler?). This will mean that the season will end at Chapter 10 of the manga, which I thought was the best chapter of the 12 that I have read. I'm not so thrilled knowing that there may be another anime-original episode since the last one was mediocre, but hopefully this time will be different.
