Inu x Boku SS - Episode 6

Karuta-chan <3

With this episode, the Karuta fanbase has most definitely skyrocketed. Riding the wave of Hanazawa Kana popularity, Karuta has been compared to characters like Tachibana Kanade and Gokō Ruri in terms of voice. The soft, yet moe, voice of these characters has already won over the hearts of countless viewers, and that number is continually increasing. I have to admit that I'm part of this group of fans and really enjoyed this Karuta-filled episode. Surprisingly, there was actually character development; I thought it'd just be an episode focused solely on showing how moe Karuta is.

From the start, Karuta had always been a mysterious character. Constantly observing from the sidelines while eating a snack of some sort, prior to this episode, she barely said anything when she did appear. Her actions made it seem like her mind was always wandering about and that she didn't have a care in the world. However, like Banri pointed out, even if Karuta may seem weird to others because of the things she does, beneath it all, she is doing it for a reason. These important points of characterization no longer makes Karuta a 1-D character that's just there to draw in viewers, but one that has emotions and feelings; it's a bonus that she's moe. Even prior to this episode, I had seen the potential for Karuta to be a fan-favorite. And after it, all I can say is that Ririchiyo just got some major competition for best character of the series.

Usually, I don't comment on EDs. But seeing as how awesomely epic this one was, I just have to recommend it for people to listen, even if they don't plan on watching the show. There have been many people who consider this Renai Circulation v2, and I have to agree. The similarity of the song (it's more focused on vocals rather than instrumentals) and the cutesy artwork are evidence of this claim. The EDs for Inu x Boku SS have sure been unique and amusing thus far, so I'll have to hold back on my song rankings for now. Nonetheless, "sweets parade" will definitely be up there when judging time comes.
