Inu x Boku SS - Episode 4

*nosebleed*

A flurry of new characters were introduced this episode. It followed Chapter 4 of the manga almost exactly so now I'm quite certain that the anime will end at Chapter 12. The new characters are colorful like always, some of them to the point where they're creepy (yes, I'm specifically referring to the two male maids). Although the events in this episode were mostly used for comedy, there was some development in terms of character relationships.

First off, we find out that both Zange and Banri are already acquainted with Sōshi. The three are actually childhood friends, with Banri being the unfortunate victim of abuse within this circle of friends. The fact that he's a tanuki doesn't help either since it makes him look like a weakling. His attempts at trying to seem "threatening" are laughable, simply because of his childlike hotheadedness. Zange, on the other hand, is like a joker. His speech pattern is quite amusing and it's slightly implied that he's into men (i.e. Sōshi). Fortunately, his displays of affection only reach the level of bodily contact (e.g hugging, clinging, etc.) so it's funnier than it is disturbing, especially since Sōshi seems oblivious to it all. I feel that both Zange and Banri are great additions to the story.

Moving on, the other characters introduced ranged from moe to creepy. Maid #1 reminded me of Yui from K-ON!, except that she has a larger chest. The genki voice that she has and the airhead aura that she gives off are so similar to Yui's. Maid #2, a.k.a. Mr. Transsexual, was by far the most disturbing of the new characters. I'll pass on any further comments. Maid #3, whose face was unique to say the least, was both creepy and hilarious at the same time. His bland jokes were so lame that I resorted to pitifully laughing at them. Lastly, the father-son pair seemed like a comedy duo to me. To me, the father is the boke, while the son is the tsukkomi. Though I doubt these characters will show up again, it was good to see them being integrated into this episode, at least.

As for the relationships, Banri is evidently in love with Karuta. The innocence of their relationship is so cute and heartwarming to see, making be a supporter of Banri x Karuta. Even though she may not notice it yet, Ririchiyo is slowly coming to realize that her feelings for Sōshi are special. Apparently, she has arrhythmia so I think she may be confused as to whether the irregular heartbeat that occurs when she thinks of Sōshi is because of her heart's condition or something else. I'm assuming their love for each other is mutual at this point; it's just Ririchiyo still does not realize this and Sōshi doesn't want to make their relationship feel awkward all for the sake of a confession. Obviously, this all changes in the future.

Kagerou looks to make his appearance in the next episode, judging from the preview. For those who think Nobara or Zange are crazy, just wait until Kagerou shows up. I just hope his antics in the manga will be animated well and that his voice actor will do a good job. I'll be looking forward to next week, as well as Sōshi's backstory which should be shown in Episode 8.
