Amagami SS+ - Episode 1

Oh, Junichi... ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌

Excellent, just excellent. This was a great start to the second season and I really enjoyed the whole episode. There was the right amount of romance and comedy, as well as some surprising drama. This drama effectively brings out the yandere inside Tsukasa, which adds to the entertainment value of the episode. I'm disappointed that this season is slotted for 12 episodes instead of 24 since I believe the story will be less rushed if each girl had four episodes instead of two. Nonetheless, judging by the exceptional first episode of Amagami SS+, I'm most certainly going to enjoy this series.

In the first season, Ayatsuji Tsukasa was my third favorite character. Yanderes generally repulse me because they are overly violent, making them seem scary when they go back to being all deredere. However, Tsukasa is a bit different as her violence is more verbal (i.e. insults) than physical (i.e. stabbing, killing, etc.). The development of her character was done well in the five episodes of Amagami SS so I'm not expecting any major development for her two episodes in Plus. But with the current situation as it is, some changes in her character may possibly occur.

In season one, Junichi barely had any responsibility as he was just chasing the girl he liked. However, season two seems to pick up from where each arc in season one ended. So now, with the strict yandere, Ayatsuji Tsukasa, as his girlfriend, he is no longer free to go around and act like a stupid pervert. But knowing Junichi, that's not going to happen. So when he finally gave in to his desires, I lost some respect for him. The fact that everything was just a trap to hurt Tsukasa didn't help either. Even though I knew Tsukasa would be able to take care of the situation herself, it was painful seeing her walk in on the cliché scene of her boyfriend being kissed by another girl; cue the predictable drama, love triangle and misunderstandings. Nonetheless, I'm still expecting a happy ending for Junichi and Tsukasa and would be extremely surprised if something like "Kurosawa ends up with Junichi" or "Tsukasa breaks up with Junichi" happens.

Now for the OP and ED: azusa, you are amazing! Like the first season's OPs, the OP and ED for Plus were really great and catchy. I'll be awaiting the release of the single(s) patiently. On the other hand, I'm slightly disappointed that each girl didn't get their own ED (it'd also mean extra profit from CD sales so I'm also surprised at why it didn't happen). The BGM in this episode brought back some great memories.
