Shinryaku!? Ika Musume - Episode 9
Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (4/5)
THE iDOLM@STER after this.
It'll get repetitive if I keep saying "This episode was good." or "I liked this episode." every week so it is safe to assume that I enjoyed the episode if I don't have anything to say about it. No criticism this week; I was entertained throughout. We'll see if it stays this way next week ~de geso.
おままごとしなイカ!? (Won't You Play House!?)
So one day, there's this random girl named Risa who pulls Ika Musume into a nearby park and asks her to play house with her. At first, Ika Musume was the father while Risa was the mother. But soon after, Eiko passes by and Risa asks her to be the mother so that she could be the child. It was hilarious seeing Eiko act in character since she is normally violent and rude towards Ika Musume. Unfortunately, the fun doesn't last long for Ika Musume as Sanae shows up and is given the role of Ika Musume's mistress. This role was no problem for Sanae as she didn't even need to "act" (she added some yandere tendencies to her regular character). As the "conflict" between the two women involved escalates, Kiyomi shows up and is given the role of Ika Musume's new lover, forming a love triangle. More "conflict" ensues and Risa ends up adding a little twist to the already complicated situation, revealing that Kiyomi is pregnant. To end off the day, Risa complains about how horrible her father is, runs away, trips on a rock on the street and is attacked by "wild horses" (actually, they were those rocking horses commonly found in parks). Ika Musume then saves Risa before "dying." The three lovers simultaneously let out cries of grief as the "game" ends. Risa then goes home, thanking the four girls for everything. After she leaves, Ika Musume starts to wonder what kind of family makes that little girl have such weird thoughts about a "family." It turns out that Risa's family is normal (or at least her sister/mother looks normal) and it's just that she likes to watch soap operas.
予定じゃなイカ!? (Isn't That the Schedule!?)
While a large bag and an organizer may be useless for Chizuru and Eiko, respectively, Ika Musume tries her best to make use of them. After planning out her day and placing the organizer inside the bag, Ika Musume goes out for a walk and bumps into Kiyomi who shows Ika Musume the contents of her bag and organizer, giving the squid girl an idea of how to use each. Unfortunately, she took things too seriously and started planning every second of her life in complete detail from when she has to fill up soy sauce bottles to when she needs to drink water to prevent dehydration. This starts conflicting with the demands that come with being a waitress at the Beach House Lemon and, eventually, Ika Musume is unable to follow her schedule. So when she sees Kiyomi again, Ika Musume tells of how her scheduling failed. Kiyomi then explains to her friend that you don't need to follow your schedule exactly and that changes to one's plans are inevitable. However, Ika Musume takes this literally and starts planning her day loosely (or in terms of invading, which she is obviously unable to do). And when she sees an advertisement for a hot spring, she doesn't even hesitate to add that to the schedule. Shortly after, Takeru invites Ika Musume to go outside and play with him. After they leave the house, Sanae shows up at the door and gives Eiko some random CD before returning Ika Musume's organizer which was on the doorstep (clumsy squid girl probably dropped it). As Sanae leaves, a creepy grin forms on her face. Later that evening, Chizuru suggests that they (as in Ika Musume, Eiko, Takeru and herself) go to the amusement park next weekend. Despite having never heard of an amusement park before, Ika Musume decides to go, cancelling out her plan to go to the hot springs. It turns out that Sanae had taken a look at Ika Musume's organizer before returning it because, when the weekend came, she was at the hot springs, waiting for Ika Musume. Have fun waiting forever, Sanae...
遊園地に行かなイカ!? (Won't You Go to the Amusement Park!?)
Continuing from where the last part concluded, the four members of the Aizawa household make their way to the amusement park. Along the way, Eiko tries to describe what's inside an amusement park to Ika Musume but ends up scaring her instead (Ika Musume, for some reason, though of Sanae attacking her). When they got there, it turns out that, because of the decline in customers and revenue, the park's main and only attraction had become spinning cups. After the owner tells the four that today is the last day the park will be open, Eiko becomes emotional and declares that they will stay until the very end. Unfortunately, riding the spinning cups for an extended period of time causes Eiko to start getting motion sickness. On the other hand, Ika Musume continued to enjoy the ride for the rest of the day (which was about 10 hours). Meanwhile, Eiko spots a pair of coin-operated rides like those at a shopping mall except these ones actually move. Unfortunately, the machine only moves forward a few meters for every 10 yen coin. When the day finally came to an end, Eiko and Takeru are the only ones dying of fatigue. As Ika Musume continues enjoying herself on the spinning cups, Eiko thinks back to the time when she and her parents, along with Chizuru, came to this very same amusement park when its business was still going well. Shortly after, the owner started to launch some fireworks as some kind of closing ceremony. As the four leave, the lights of the amusement park turn off, leaving the bowing owner in a bunny costume alone in the dark while setting a slightly depressing mood. The next day, however, Chizuru shows Eiko an article in a magazine which shows that the owner of the amusement park had turned the place into a bar that had waitresses in bunny attire. After knowing this, Eiko declares that her memories of the place are now officially ruined.
