Shinryaku!? Ika Musume - Episode 2

I believe I can fly ~de geso!

Episode Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ (4/5)

Another great episode filled with everyone's favorite squid. How the stories manage to keep me entertained (and laughing at times) is impressive, considering that it has already been 14 episodes of plotless comedy. Will I ever get bored of Ika Musume? Probably not. I expect more or less the same score each episode, give or take a ★ depending on the content. Oh, and the OP and ED are really good (forgot to talk about them in the Episode 1 Review), although I thought the ones from Season 1 were slightly better.

小学校に行かなイカ!? (Won't You go to Elementary School!?)
Takeru, being an elementary student announces that he is going to school one morning. Ika Musume decides to follow him, confident that she will not be affected by the large number of kids there. But as expected, she gets mobbed by them because of her tentacles, marking a bad start to the day - or so she thought. When the homeroom teacher came in and saw that Ika Musume had stolen her spotlight, she sulks away, leaving the squid in charge. At this, Ika Musume realizes that this may be her chance to rally some troops for her invasion. Surprisingly, she gets every single one of the kids to be on her side. As the group of children, led by the self-proclaimed "Invader from the Sea", march across the school grounds while chanting about reclaiming the sea, they are interrupted by a couple of kids playing soccer. This confrontation results in Ika Musume challenging them to a game, despite not knowing a single thing about the sport. Not only did she fail, she epic failed; not being able to kick the ball no matter how many times she tried. And since her tentacles were forbidden (触 - the kanji for "hand"), Ika Musume became a burden for her team. A short while into the match, her own teammates, along with the delinquents on the other team, started feeling sorry for her because she kept on failing in front of so many supporters and decided to make it seem like she scored. In the end, Ika Musume uses her bright smile to make the kids promise to share the school area. But just when the end looked bright for Ika Musume, the homeroom teacher of Takeru's class shows up again and, this time, manages to win her students back with ice cream, even after Ika Musume gave a speech about unity. Yes, Ika-chan, the path of invasion is harsh.

コスプレじゃなイカ!? (Won't You Cosplay!?)
At one point during another normal day at the Beach House Lemon, Eiko and Chizuru realize that they haven't been getting many female customers. In an attempt to solve this, they make Nagisa change her hairstyle so that she looks more like a male. This plan turns out as beneficial for both the Beach House Lemon and Nagisa as more female customers start coming and Ika Musume doesn't seem as scary anymore, respectively. After seeing the success, the Aizawa sisters now turn their attention on getting more male customers. As if on cue, the owner of rival beach house, Minami Kaze, shows up leaves his daughter, Ayumi, in their care, hoping that she could overcome her shyness through working at a place where she doesn't know anyone. With a quick change into a maid outfit, Ayumi is ready for action. In order to help her, Chizuru offers to let her borrow some brass knuckles with scary looking daggers that were initially bought for self-defense (like you really need anything for self-defense, Chizuru). Ayumi's first customer turns out to be Isozaki Tatsuo, another lifeguard, whose only reason for coming to the Beach House Lemon is to attempt to get a date with a girl. At first, he tries to act cool in front of Ayumi, knowing the fact that this is their second time meeting, and asks her out on the date. However, when Ayumi reveals the deadly weapon fitting around her fist, Tatsuo turns blue with fear and ends up ordering an iced coffee. The same happens to the other male customers. Working together, Nagisa and Ayumi run the beach house with ease, leaving Ika Musume with nothing to do. But the good times don't last long as the owner of Minami Kaze returns shortly after and scolds his daughter, and, indirectly, Nagisa, for not overcoming their fears by themselves, and instead, resorting to the aid of something else - the brass knuckles for Ayumi and acting as a male for Nagisa. That night, while Ika Musume watches television, she sees a queen speaking to her subordinates and gets a new idea to attract more customers to the Beach House Lemon. The next day, she cosplays as a "Queen Ikazabeth" and attempts to rile up a crowd. However, the only people she manages to persuade are Cindy, Sanae and the three idiots from MIT. Seeing this failure, Ika Musume walks away, depressed, wanting to take off the queen clothes immediately.

軽くなイカ!? (Don't You Feel Lighter!?)
With the sun's heat bordering unbearable, Ika Musume and Eiko go to get a drink of water. Suddenly, a zombie-like girl who desperately needed water showed up. Upon receiving water, the girl is refreshed and her identity is revealed as Sanae, who purposely wore thick clothing to sweat so she could lose weight faster. She reveals that she had recently started starting at a picture of Ika Musume while she ate and, thus, ended up eating more than usual and gaining some unwanted weight. As the topic about weight continues on, Eiko turns out to be one of those people who can eat as much as they want, without ever gaining a single pound (I hate those people), while Ika Musume turns out to be someone who looks skinny but actually weighs 100 kilograms. However, Chizuru argues that the scale used to measure Ika Musume's weight is broken and ends up breaking it in rage after Eiko tries to weigh herself on it, obviously mad at the scale since she gained weight. Later that evening, Chizuru buys a new scale and, after weighing herself on it, asks Ika Musume to come try it out. This time, the scale registered 30 kilograms, prompting Chizuru to ask Ika Musume how she lost 70 kilograms in so little time. It turns out that the blue bracelets on Ika Musume's wrists (which I thought were just for fashion) are able to control one's weight. This is useful since lifting heavy objects with her tentacles requires her body to be heavier. To test the extent of this ability, Chizuru asks Ika Musume to turn the weight to the minimum. This results in a mere fan being able to lift her in the air. Because of this, Ika Musume decides to take Takeru's suggestion and fly, desiring to conquer land, sea and air. In the end, she is able to fly but ends up being snatched away and carried off into the sunset by a bird. The next day, Ika Musume returns to the Beach House Lemon in rags. Eiko then rubs salt into poor squid girl's wounds by reminding her that she failed at conquering land, sea and air. To end off this story, Chizuru attempts to take off the weight bracelets but ends up causing Ika Musume's weight to go up to 20,000 kilograms. Poor Ika-chan.
